i put my swb over the wbridge a month ago. 620kg without me and 720kg with me. 10kg increments on the bridge and its certified 3monthly (it does all the licence weights in town ATM). the buggy has a galv steel "chassis stiffner" and front torsion bar stabilisers but not much else... lic papers say tare: 640kg

daz67's buggy weighed 680kg?, and has some heavy bits and pieces on it.

Andrew's tow'd has type 4 running gear which adds a bit of weight.

Low 600kg like the last quoted buggy is probably about as light as your gunna get. No way it'd be near 400 something kg. You'd get low to mid 13's out of a drag buggy with a steriod motor.

When I saw the Steriod engined buggy at raleigh years ago it understeered like a bitch, I got video footage to prove it.

That's what happens when you run a locked ZF diff in a buggy ! pushes like a tractor in the mud !

The blue J & S that I was racing weighed in at under 500 kg as proven at Box Hill weigh station. I suggest that anyone who has cut out 12 inches from a standard vw and then removed the very heavy body shell, rear seats etc etc etc and cannot get thier buggy down near 500 kg is not trying. Whats the point in adding heavy steel bars etc and putting the weight on the buggy back up to a beetle, may as well not have bothered.

Also, any high HP buggy will undesteer under acceleration in tight corners, you just got to know how to deal with it, its not that bad and I still broke several track records with that set up.

I'm not trying as you have rightly suggested and I like the fact if I hit a tree that has been misplaced by nature, then I can still drive away.:thumb

Excuse my ignorance, but what does J&S stand for? the buggies look really great, a bit like Manxes but with a more 'raked back' look about them, were they available world wide or is it just an Aussie thing? never seen one before (I think!)
