64vwmark wants to have a trip........:thumb
Nothing too serious just for fun. Meet up at the caltex/redroster on Great Eastern (200m up from g/northern)at between EDIT 11am on Sunday 23rd, then leave to go to Mundaring/sawers Valley. I will be taking my jeep just in case you get stuck in the mud but most tracks are dry anyway. (I just don't have a buggy to take right now....cry). I will take straps but best if you have your own.

Good one Moose. Have you ever had the buggy out and not broken either it or you ?
Damn I miss my Baja now.
Did anyone on this site ever buy (or see) a Guards Red 1957 (big rear window, not oval) bug eye baja in Perth - I sold it in about 2001 to a bloke in Bibra Lake, rego number was BD.18760.
It had a 1600 single port in it, with powder coated white tinwork.
31.5 R 15's on the back, swingaxle (67 pan). 15" 5 ply light truck tyres up front. All on custom made Sunraysia steel rims (white).
Would love to catch up with whoever owns it - might even consider buying it back. I'm getting tired of smooth road driving.

lol.... funny you say that, I looked at one in the Quokka that was red with white tin... but the bugger sold it while i was on my way to see it. He's selling a white one now on ebay
I remember that red one, but have not seen it for a few years..
I hate to admit it, but man, I think you're right....
I really hope it hasnt been written off or anything silly, my old man and I put a heap of effort into it and it was a real good package by the time I (stupidly) sold it to buy something 'that went faster' 🙁
Dipstick.

oh' and welcome to WA
G'day to the southern WA Veedub nuts,
why is it that there's a VW run on in my State and I'm 3200ks and i'm still in the state and it's just sooo far away.
Hope you have a good run and we're hoping to be down in Perth with the Desert Splitty in September for a bit of a cruise to check the joint out.
Would like to catch with some of ya at that time.
Cheers, Ian.

Yeah, just think of driving from Cairns (Qld) all the way down to Geelong(Vic) and still be in the same state..........
gotta love our big state:thumb
Do we have any more cars coming along yet...???
I hate to admit it, but man, I think you're right....
WABaja wrote:Do we have any more cars coming along yet...???

Coool.....
I just hope they can stop the fire before we get there...
It's made it across to Mundairing ...!!!
There are a lot of Police up there with many roads closed...
I will be catching up with Andy tomorrow but don't hold much hope of him being able to come along as I hear his house construction is now running way behind time...

I hate to admit it, but man, I think you're right....
They reckon the fire is under control now but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.
Is there anywhere else to go up there if Mundaring is closed off??

Well I was hoping we could go just a little past Sawyers Valley, on the way to The Lakes turn off out Great Eastern Highway, as there are some great tracks up through there...
Hopefully that area will not have been affected...
I hate to admit it, but man, I think you're right....
We'll just have to check it out once we get there i guess.

A warning has been sent out to all mountain bike riders on another forum to avoid the hills all together for now. They fear riders will get caught in a fast moving fire. You guys may what to adhere to this as well.
Stay safe Nige
Thanks for the info. We won't be taking any unnecessary risks.

I have rang the shire,......... and its a no go zone...:cry
maybe a run somewhere else this weekend and do mundaring another time
any ideas people…..? I was looking forward to the day
Surely there must be something down the southwest highway ?
or go up to Lancelin or somewhere like that ?
Anyone seen "4WD Days out of Perth" 3rd Ed?
Inside there is a run called 'Moondyne Country'. It's in the Avon Valley National Park. I haven't been there before but apparently there is a lot of historic sites there to see.
Could be interesting. What do you think? It's about half way to Toodyay.

Yeah, could be interesting or we could make it the 30th and still go to mundaring........
cos' you still need to go past the hills to get to toodyay
some people I know are going to lancelin saturday, but I'm still eating sand from last time....lol
maybe some time down Harvey way ( I don't know it well, only the hard 4x4 tracks)
I'd prefer that we don't change the date as other people may have plans already for the following weekend but I'm easy either way.
Anywhere down south of the fires sounds good to me, Harvey could be good as long as it doesn't take too long to get down there. If we take off at 11 we should be down there just after midday?

What about the off road area down near Motorplex...??? )If it's still open that is)... Otherwise the forest tracks on the way to Lancelin or, have any of you guys done the Warbrook road that runs from Sydney Road, off Gnangara Rd, up to Bullsbrook...
That's a good one, it's on the maps as a road, but it's an unsealed track and takes in some of the state forrest across the back of the Gnangara Pines with plenty of old wrecks and some good little tracks...
It's not a big one, a slow straight drive through there will take less than an hour, but there are a lot of little adventures in there, and it gets us out "Somewhere" that we can continue on from, (Rather than a lot of driving to the middle of "No where" with a turn around and head back)....
I'm happy to lead the way, but we'll need to change the meeting point if you guys want to do this one...
I hate to admit it, but man, I think you're right....
that sounds good to me....... I love Gnangara Pines and I know my way around as well..... the only thing is we took our commodore on that track your talking about, but as you say the tracks to the side can be very good ....lol, with deep and hungry sand.
All those in favour say "I"...
I hate to admit it, but man, I think you're right....
