If you want standard they are just the 15 x 4.5 rim with the tyres to suit. I have two rims with good tyres. The rims have been sand blasted and powder coated white.

so what new tyres can I buy for that size? Everything 'off-road' in tyres these days is 16-inch or needs a 6-inch wide rim...

You dont need a wide rim
Class 11 racers (stock sedans) use 4.5 rims with 235/75/15 tyres
just tucks in the sidewalls, which isnt a bad thing
and narrow rims wit big tyres just looks sweet.

I couldnt find an off road tyre to suit the 4.5 inch rim. They dont seem to be available thats why I went for wide rims as there are plenty to choose from for a 6 or 8 inch rim.

the best tyres to suit the std cb rims which is painted black are 15in tyres to suit the small jap 4x4s .these fit very well with only a little bag on the side wall.the overall height suits the cb gearing with no road noise and very good off road manners...you can get good used thru a wrecker. This is the tyre I choose and travelled some 4.5k in germany with them in2003 .by the way the load rating suits all split screens and helps the handling...DSK member

I had the same problem with guard clearance on mine until I fitted some coil over shocks at the rear, trimmed the rear guard and fitted rubber flares. Someone had already cut the front guards. I suppose it depends if you want top keep it standard or not. The body on mine was pretty rough and I wanted to use it on sand so I need bigger tyres. It now has 6" rims with 185/70 on the front and 8" rims with 31.10 R15 on the back.

It will stay stock-standard with standard 4.5-inch CB/Kombi rims.

Any ideas on tyres? Need to buy asap... happy to get recommendations from fellow Veedubbers before I begin talking to my tyre bloke...

A 235/75R15 tyre needs to be on a 7 inch rim so is no good on a 4.5 inch rim.....I doubt you'd find a tyre fitter that would fit it.

That's why I'm NOT interested in a 235, 255, 285 or a 315/25/19 tyre.. I need STOCKO tyres for a 4.5-inch CB rim... :duh

I have 215/75R/15s Goodyear Wranglers on my buggy, are a great size, not too big, not too small, but the rims are the ROH 5.5 I think.

Why does it NEED to be on a 7 inch rim?
what would be a better size?
215/75/15?

I went to 4 different tyre places and they cant find the winter tread tyres. I had Bridgestones which had a good tread and the right size but they were 30 years old! The best I could find for the standard 15" rim was a road tyre. The narrow off road tyres were all 16" Thats why I went for a wide rim.

got a pair of these in 7.00 by 15 8ply to go on rear of freinds long term CB project. $110 each incl tube a while ago.

they're a bit tough and heavy. dont know how they'll go but if they are no good they'll just go on some farm implement or buggy or something...

in terms of fitting questionable tyres on rims, dont you just take the tyre and rim in seperate and ask them to do it and if they say they cant, just tell them its for the broccolli harvester or something...

that would be great! Although I want to do some 'off-road' in my CB (such as Cape York!) I do NOT want to fit wide wheels/tyres or chop the mudguards

Bridgestone have 14" & 15" offroad tyres in narrow sizes in their 604V pattern. The narrow sizes aren't listed on the website or in their normal catalogues but if you go to a bridgestone tyre centre and tell them you want some narrow 15" desert duelers they should be able to help you out.

Here is the 605V website, but not all sizes are listed.
http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/products/car/treads/604v.asp

There are a couple of Manxs running around in QLD with 14" duelers on the front and there are no 14" tyres listed in the catalogue 🙂

VWCOOL, Bridgestone Dueller 195/75 or 205/75 All Terrains would be a good choice, Not too wide but still good in the sand at 15psi even down to 10psi if needed without any problems. I ran 215/75 Dueller ATs on the Desert Bug across the Simpson Desert at 15psi for 700ks without any problems.
Cheers, Ian.

I agree... but those sizes are too wide/big and will foul on my guards.. I need something around 165 which is why I am having so much difficulty getting tyres to suit my car..

A buggy in the Simpson! SWEET!

Ask the tyre place if you can have a look in their throw out heap for a 195/75 AT to fit up and try on the front for clearance. Tell them you might be up for a set if the clearance is ok. I think you might be suprised. 165s are smaller than the original fittment tyres which were 6.70x15 same as Split Kombis, 165s are more the same size as 6.40s. A mate has 215/75ATs on 15x6.5 rims on the back of his Country Buggy with standard Arches without any clearance problems and the outside of the tyre is just inside the body line.
Cheers.
