The Jubilee beetle ? Was that the metallic dark brown one or the metallic green? The silver one was the last edition in '76 wasn't it?

Hi,
I did answer with what I knew about the Marathon- Jubilee beetle commemorating the overtaking of the Model T fords
production record.....
I must have pressed the wrong key...
as it has started a post by itself.....
apoligies...
I couldn't find a pic of the badge....
thought i had seen one somewhere...
there were 2000 Marathon or Jubilee beetles made in Germany...
I don't know if any Aussie assembled 1972 beetles had the
badge on the dash.... Anyone know???

ok, heres info i have gather alrite..from a few sites...it is mroe a collaboration of the info, so as to clarify what they are saying

u are in fact, well as far as i can tell, talking about two different beetles....

There is firstly the Jubilee, which was produced in 1971, when VOLKSWAGEN celebrated its 20 millionth sale.....I gather that means a car or van of any sort...just under the VW badge. The car was offered in that lovely bright yellow - Saturn Yellow. 15 thousand of them were produced.

However on the 17 February 1972, VW produced its 15007034th BEETLE...which was a superbeetle.

In this honor, it then produced (according to details I can find) 6000 super beetles (metallic blue/silver in color) They have a plaque on the dash, and came with a certificate. from what i can tell from info i can see...it was a 'european only' beetle. I think that means ppl probably had to have it imported especially for them. And as i understand it, some ppls from aussie ordered them in but they weren't 'sent here as a big shipment" per say (offically) make sense??

The following link has pics and things of the car, along with ones of the jubilee.

http://www.1302super.com/page11.html

VW went on to produce 35 (if I've read it all correctly) special edition super bugs through the following years...

hope this helps ppls out....but yes, it appears that we definately have two cars, one which celebrates 20 million cars, and one that celebrates 15 million beetles....

oh, and dont be surprised if u see the titles being swaped over thru other ppls sites and links...I have noticed it, and still nto sure if I've got it rite.

all clear as mud now....

correct me if i'm wrong lee.

PS: still haven't found out how many eactly were sent to aussie land, except i recall, like Lee, reading somewhere the figure was approx 200...

but i like supers so reading about them isn't a chore for me..will keep going

can u get pics of the badge on the glove box, and any plaques...i will continue to look to see if i can match anything up...

Lee...if u have a copy (and I am sure u will) perhaps u could also check the forgotten history of aussie book for us...see what it says

Quickly checked around on some sites...it seems the supers were came out of either wolfsberg or emden...no mention of them coming off an aussie productions line....

but just to add to the confusions:

Meanwhile in Australia the 1302 had been produced from 1971 to 1972 and was called the Volkswagen S. The 1973 to 1975 Australian built 1303 was called the Volkswagen L; all had 1600cc motors with front disc brakes as standard equipment.

arrghh...i will get to the bottom of the supers story...still looking for more info

Here's the story/ I have two beetles both 1972 and both are 15 millonth beetle editions/ have been told that thousands were made but never see them at volksie shoes been to plenty over the years. Have heard that only 2000 made world wide and 200 came to OZ. Another question are they worth more than the standard one?
