I have the original engine in My 68 Beetle although the engine is Now 1600 instead of 1500...
I kept it a single port even though I changed the heads...
I don't know why I did that🙂🙂

but I do have a 1600 twin port for a spare from a 1302S ...

I probably would have liked a 1776cc engine with 1.4 - 1 roller rockers , twin Kadrons, electronic ignition, and exhaust extractors...

My Son has an 1835cc with twin kadrons & fancy extractors...
large sump and external oil cooler....

I'd stick to an air cooled - my 2 litre is standard except for the dual 40mm Dellorto carbs, a watson 275 racing cam (a small one by some measures) and unleaded heads

Your Kombi is a "type 2" Volkswagen, along with utes, panel vans and double cabs

The motor is a "type 4" motor if it is a 1700, 1800 or 2litre

Just to confuse you if it is a 1968-1979 'kombi', or 'bay window' then it is a T2 model type 2

The T2 designates it as a second generation Transporter, being after the 'split window' type 2

just 'Kombi' will be ok for me though.

I'm going for an 1835 in my current project car (Baja), only because I already have all the bits to build it... I will see how it performs with the EFI set-up on it...if there is not enough grunt I will Type IV it ASAP...Type IVs are very nice to drive and almost bullet proof!
