the Brandt $350 immobiliser one

This is the base one that complies with Shannons requirements.

They are just up at 5 dock shops, but doesnt matter. They come to you

To be honest i lean towards spending as little as possible to get a good insurance company.

All the alarms are of an OK standard.

I put an immobalizer in my bus along with central locking, Only really wanted the immobalizer so i could get keyless entry. The immobalizer cost me $50 off ebay.... there was plenty of more expensive ones on there. Do a search, www.ebay.com.au

Are they in league with the alarm companies? Ah well, if your wheels are worth that much it's worth it.
My old van has a switch between the horn ant interior light. Guess that isn't a qualifying alarm. But I guess there aren't too many insurance companies that would go near a few hundred dollars worth of van.

We needed to get an immobiliser as well to get insurance with Shannons. They didn't specify a brand but there was a list of specifications the immobiliser had to comply with. Biggest seemed to be all black wiring.

We got one put in from Strathfield Car Radio that cost us $169 supplied and installed. It is not an alarm though, just an immobiliser that self arms after 30 seconds.

Hope that helps

Mongoose immobilizer/alarm in our bus, approved alarms must be self arming no more than 30 seconds and all wires must be black from memory, can't remember the model number, the siren was just an add on to the immobilizer.

self arming sucks! usualy means locking yourself out of the car. not for me anyway. most alarms give you the option to self arm or not when installed

Not if it is just an immobiliser. You have to have central door locking added and make it an alarm for the locking to take place, otherwise it just immobilises automatically for you.
