Might be a record???

Cheers

Byronbus, how things change in a matter of weeks.
Didnt you e-mail me stating that you were willing to put a deposit on my bus only someone had beat you to it.?????
So there must be something in actually having a fully restored bus as you were after mine???

Cheers
Dave

Im hogging this a bit, but splits are my passion...the more on the road the bigger smile i have, fun getting a wave from a bay or a beetle, but soo much more fun trying to hang out the little slider on a split waving at another split driver, bloody hell i almost wet my pants...

Frenzix has a 65 panel, when weve finished replacing the rear floor and inner and outer sills and getting the ole girl safe and roadworthy (for less than a grand) for 5kish he will have a RUST FREE split...wahoo another smile coming your way...jeez another on the road...

Haha dave...i was drunk...
But i dont deny that your bus was sweet, and if the semaphores hadnt been welded up, and a few other little things then i might have been interested...I would love a weekend cruiser, already have a dailly driver, for sure...restored, so all i needed to do was wax and enjoy...

I drive a split all day everyday, I dont have another car...a nice restored early example would look mighty fine in my gararge...so whats your point?

Pity it left Australia...nn[ Edited on 19-7-2005 by byronbus ]

I know the post is all about the mighty split window,
but i just thought i would share this, seeing someone above,
Not naming names, seems to obsesed with the XR era. :thumb

This one belongs to a good mate of mine. Was his father
inlaws XER. Originally a 1967 XR 500, it now has front and
rear disc brakes, simmons 16" alloy wheels,
retrimmed XR fairmont intereor with front buckets, and a
nice old 289 V8 motor under the bonnet coupled with a cruise-o-matic auto.
It has all been done in taste and good will, oh, the odometer is reading a
mere 106,000 original miles. Original 6 being replaced with
and original 8 @ 95,000 miles when aquired. Has done
11,000 miles in the last 8 years. Original paint too. 🙂

One more, lovely old 289 V8......,

Just to touch on some other things, lets not look at this
post as being a negative or a positive, but more a mutral
opertunity to discuss opinions and attitudes towards
different things. I agree that it is these sort of topics that
do create a little debate, but they also certainly create
an enjoyable forum to browse. Look at the hit rate on this
topic, its got things booming again. Its nice to see peoples
rides, and what they are doing, but nothing beats a good
old debate about something trivial, and if your all discusted
by it, why so many returned visits and posts?

You all enjoy the opertunity, dont deny it! :P :thumb

If Splitty's were rare why are companies like Schofields and Creative making new parts. If they were that rare they wouldn't sell a lot.
What is rare is the type of person that wants to drive one.

Blue 62 hit the nail on the head.
Most topics I start are done so that we can get back to having discussions.
But some see them as excuses to have a go at others.
Who said the art of conversation was dead.
I have never had a go at anyone.
As far as I know I have only ever upset one person and I sorted that out with her ages ago
I have lasted about as long as I can.
I have felt like this for a while but have given it a few chances.
I now know why others who have been on here for years have gone.
I just thought I would do one last good post as I intend to have a break from this site for a while. It has changed over the years and it seems that i cant post my opinions, without someone turning it into a free for all.
I thought a forum was so that we could each have a say,
but it seems that if you dont think like others they have a go??
The new project arrives in a couple of weeks as does our new baby.
So I will not have time to come on here as much as I used to.
I have been on here almost every day since it started and I think it is time for a change.
I will be on tomorrow as 62 deluxe is going to post some pics of his splitty.
I will visit kombiclub.com and see how that goes.

Cheers

the $$ sums on restoring a Splitty, or any car for that matter are simple.
If you want it to have it look like a new car, you have to be prepared to spend new car price.
Most people seem normal, till you get to know them.

To me, no matter what the arguement, whether it's restored or rat, or unroadworthy, every one is to be cherished, enjoyed, and smiled at......

This below, bought the biggest smile to my face at the Nats, all because it was still being enjoyed at any cost. And that's what it's about. :kiss

Thats the dsk split, boy did we cop some flack over that...
Some thought it was disrespectful to the ole girl...another person on here thought it was better to take any good bits and crush it...but the dsk boys continue to enjoy her...

I think what Dave was saying is that that is not a 'Rat', as its not registered nor is it driven (I am guessing here), its probably more a project. A 'Rat' is generally given to a VW thats on the road but keeps its old 'patina'
I can see why it may be classed as disrespectful to other rat owners and/or other splitty owners.
There are people out there that have spent $20,000 plus on making there bus a 'Rat' look and would spin heads for the right reasons. This bus was probably laughed at for all the wrong reasons
This would look an awesome bus if you repaired the rot and kept it on the road for future generations, whether iot be as a 'Rat' or restored.
Thats only my opinion

You're right, people were upset because they spent 1000's of dollars on their cars and no one noticed, because everyone was looking at the dsk split...
