IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN AUSTRALIA DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF PETROL FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.
AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.
THEREFORE THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 22nd HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR BEHIND " DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF PETROL THAT DAY.
THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.
WAITING ON THE GOVERNMENT TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES
> IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL
> IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?
REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF PETROL GOING UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING SUPPLIES MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.
SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE SEPTEMBER 22nd A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF AUSTRALIA "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

stupid thought, as you would be buying the day b4 or the day after anyway. botht hose days either side would reflect a greater figure than normal thus it balances out.

there is another email going round saying boycot mobile and bp as these are the market leaders and would then need to drop price to entice consumers. i think thats the better of the two schammms.

The one about September 22nd is for real...
That is Boycott the bowser day and it is being taken very seriously on this side of the country so how about supporting the cause that will benifit YOU instead of bagging it out...
Any action to try to drive fuel prices down is a Positive step for consumers.. If nothing is done we could soon be paying prices equivilent to those of the U.K.. (Somewhere around DOUBLE what we pay in Australia)... The government is not putting a stop to sky rocketing prices because the more money the fuel companies make, the more tax they have to pay to the government...!! When was the last time you heard any government ask for LESS tax...?? It will Never happen..!!!

People need need to realize that this country is carried by trucks and transport.. When the price of fuel goes up, the price of Everything goes up..
Support Boycott the Bowser day...
I hate to admit it, but man, I think you're right....

i dunno ppls... with the dwindling stocks of oil and fossil fuels, dont you think we SHOULD be paying more??
maybe if this is the real deal then a nationwide petition should be signed that states you dont buy petrol on 22nd september to show the government that it should be spending its tax dollars on public transport and human-powered transport infrastructure for when the fuel runs out!!

most places in the world with super-expensive fuel prices have fantastic public transport... i think we should take a leaf out of their book.
in the beginning, the universe was created.
this made alot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

Never ceases to amaze me the number of ways people dream up to affect the petrol / oil price, very very few of which have any chance of ever succeeding.

Not buying for a day wouldnt do a damn thing, even if you did it for a day every week. There is easily enough ullage (tank room) in the WA refinery, terminals, and distributors, not to mention actual servo tanks to absorb a days production and distribution.

If you could do it for a week in a row, it would cause a bit of annoyance, but the end effect would be that everyone would have full tanks - servos, distributors, terminals, maybe the refinery, but I think we have more room than that.

If nobody bought any petrol for a whole month, we (I work for BP in Kwinana, WA) would be in a spot of bother. We would have to pull throughput on the refinery as our product tanks would run out of room. Additionally, our Crude Oil is usually purchased 6 - 12 weeks in advance, so pulling throughput like that would cause a backup in the feed area, our crude tanks would fill up and we would have to turn crude ships away or delay them or cancel purchases - each option costs mega $$.

So with a refinery full of products and alot of smart marketing types beavering away, I think we would probably just find a product ship and export our product to another market - US west coast is about $38 US / bbl margin right now, that will stay huge until the 19 refineries that were shut down by Hurricane Katrina start up and ramp up to full production.

The long and the short of it - yes, Oil companies dont have unlimited storage, or stockpiles - in fact we would drain our huge crude tanks in a little over a week if we didnt continually import - but the demand from community is always going to hurt the people before it hurts the oil companies. No way could Perth for example still operate without anybody purchasing fuel for a month, and a day wouldnt make a damn difference.

I agree that the Australian Govt taxes fuels too heavily, although I'm not holding my breath for them to change that. Those taxes, while they pay all the pollies wages and super, also fund Medicare, the public health system (such as it is) and a million and one other things that we all take for granted. If they lost their revenue from fuels, taxes would increase in other areas to make up for it.

I also agree that governments should be investing in public transport systems - in most capital cities in Aus they are pretty poor, and I believe in the next 5 - 10 years petrol will become more expensive to the point it will seriously hurt the average battler with a 15 year old commodore and 3 kids. Additionally we need to be investing in alternative fuels and energy sources right now, not when oil gets too expensive. Bio diesel, natural gas hydrogen, solar, tidal, wind farms all will become profitable at one level or another of oil price - we should have the technology sorted out before we need it I think.

Personally ? I paid 137.9 for standard unleaded 2 days ago because I refuse to pay 146.9 for Ultimate which I have always run my car on. Its the first tank of standard ULP I have ever run in the car. I'm seriously thinking about buying a motorbike, or trying to ride my pushie more often to cut down on my fuel costs, because I have other areas I'd rather be spending that money.

I dont know what the answer is to make petrol cheaper. I dont think there is one. My suggestion, which is made in the recognition that 99% of the worlds economy is tied to oil in one way or another, is to try and make yourself independant to the oil price - ride, walk, jog to work if possible, as petrol is going to get much more expensive than it is today in the future.

I agree with doug and starbuugy. oil is a non renewable resource and as demand goes so will the price. just learn to deal with it. its just a matter of thinking about how much it used to cost.

we won't run out of oil in our lifetime, there's still shitloads of it left, it's all the problems with the world today that's driving the prices up we've seen lately.

First up I'm not a Johny Howard fan but.... the guy runs the country! Don't you think he deserves some super and a nice house. I mean really. We pay didly squat for our countries leaders in the grand scheme of things. The CEOs of Ozzy companies get millions of dollars a year and a huge payout of millions of dollars when they leave. The CEO of our country (Prime Minister) gets what $250K PA..... and a super package when he leaves. big deal.

Having said that I still think the tax on fuel is still excessive! I just don't think comparing it to John Howards wage is relevant. Apparently the government makes 38c a litre in tax on fuel. How many litres does Australia use a day?

How many cars are there? How much fuel do we use, lets make some guesses.....

Assuming 10 million cars in Australia use 40 litres a month that 10,000,000 x 40 x .38c = 152,000,000 in tax a month. Suddenly John Howards super becomes irrelevant.

So what does the Government spend it's 152 million in Fuel tax dollars on every month?

I'm not saying it doesn't. But that is $152 in fuel tax alone. Not including income tax, company tax etc.

To pay fuel tax is optional however, we don't have to pay it. We could walk or ride a bike to work. 🙂nn[ Edited on 09 September 2005 by MikeM ]

Dont get me started on the amount of tax / customs fees we pay on our crude oil.....

138,000 barrels a day x $68.40 US / bbl x 365 = $4.6 Billion Aus in crude costs, I dont know exactly what customs excises and taxes are due on this figure, but it would have to be more than one or two percent and the government has a whole lot more money. Then consider that there are 7 operational refineries in Australia.......

Last time i heard with the increase demand in places in china, the fuel reserves will run out in our lifetime. (iam 23, so 70years or so) and also the remaining reserves will cost more to tap, as they were not financially viable to do in the past.

Hasn't the federal economy been in surplus for the last two years?
What about the 3x3 fuel tax introduced in NSW over 10 years ago. It was supposed to be 3c extra tax per litre of fuel for 3 years to aid better roads. There is no doubt that NSW roads are the worst in OZ so they haven't been spending it on that. I think the govt need a public enquiry into fuel taxes.
I also think we should be driving commodores and falcons with 3.5L turbo diesels, not thirsty old petrol motors. Everyone needs to wake up.

I'm with u mikem. I hate howard, but he comes pretty cheap compared with Telstra Boss Sol Tojillo. Fuel excise is calculated on volume not price so the Government stands to lose as the price of fuel goes up... mind you the GST is still applied to the combined price on the fuel plus excise (ie. a tax on a tax). Petrol is a commodity, not a god given right.... Howard estimates subsidising fuel to the tune of 10 cents a litre would cost $350m a year... and it would still be $1.29 a litre. The Govt. subsidises primary producers using diesel... that's bit of a rort if you ask me. And while I'm at it.. how about getting rid of the billlions in middle class welfare doled out every year... money for having a baby? What next, $10 every time we take a dump? PLEEAASSE!!!!
In the worlds before Monkey primal chaos reigned. heaven sought order, but he pheonix can fly only when its feathers are grown. the 4 worlds formed again and yet again, as the endless aoens weild and passed. Time and the pure essence of heaven and the moisture of the earth all worked upon a certain rock old as creation. And it became mgically fertile. That first egg was named "Thought". Thathaga Buddha, the father Buddha, said with our thoughts we make the world. Elemental forces caused the egg to hatch and from it came a stone monkey! The nature of MONKEY WAS IREPRESSIBLE!!!!! !

I agree with the primary producers bit, most of the people enjoying that are the big farming and mining corporations, and they are already in the govt's back pocket. :o
