its more than a shape and size thing.

its what they stand for,
its the feeling you get while driving one,
its the feeling you get when someone else driving one waves at you and smiles, for the mear fact that you are driving the same brand of car.

the feeling, they are happy cars to drive because their handling is fun and unique and they make people smile when you drive by. my old bay only has a fresh orange and white paintjob and yet there are photos of it going to Japan, China, Canada, France and Germany, and thats just the ones i know of from my trip. nobody (except perhaps mechanics and auto elecs) hates a VW.

From all the people I speak to young and old its been a part of all our lives in some way.
For the elderly a vw means a story of some sort to them, a part of their lives in some way, usually a good memory now they have....their first car....learning to drive in one....taking their then girlfriend out in one...etc
To the younger generation it could mean their parents owning one, or fun times in one, joining a vw club....
to everyone they hold a special place in their mind and heart.
Most of all it brings a smile to their face.....and every smile holds a story

because they are all paid for and my previous love was with cars that were Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious, so I like the fact I can jump in any tommorrow and drive to the sunshine coast without fear.

I think having VW is the one "base" thing that brings people together. No matter what age, gender, financial status, or social upbringing. When you're in a VW, you're all the same.

It's also the only car where enthusiasm is infectious. I got behind a nice early beetle around the back of Turramurra on Friday, and automatically we both waved to each other, followed each other for a km, and had school kids in raptures as they went to all punch each other.

hey guys thanks for giving ur opinion on ur veedub!:thumb

its helped abit with my artwork ideas i just gotta sort out a couple more things
im not sure whether to do a piece on the rat veedub with all its rust and crap or the spotless veedub all shiny and loved. or the idea that veedubs bring a smile to the face, they r reliable and some how combining that into an artwork.❓
ah ha good luck to me.

anyone else got something to share about y they love their veedub??

I love volkswagens, bug's in particular. As a child I remember looking at pictures of my parents beetle they bought brand new in 1969, since then I was hooked. When I was 18 my father bought me my first car...a beetle. Even though it was a death trap I fell in love with it. Now 4 years on I am onto my second beetle!

I also love it when you drive past a fellow vw owner you both wave. The beetle is so distintive and different then any other car.

I have so many ideas when it comes to artwork and vw's. Maybe show the classic beetle morphing into the new beetle? Portraying the changes that have happened throughout time. Maybe show part of the classic all shiny and loved but parts that have the rust, showing age and character.

Anywayz, I hope this helped!

I must admit it was Herbies fault. When I was little my dad took me to see the Herbie movies......I wanted one ever since!
This year I got my TinkerBeetle, shes purple, phat and a necksnapper! Gotta love all the waves, smiles, points and stares when I drive past.
Beetles have so much character, and history.

Kids dont care if it is a 'rat' or a showcar. They are all punchbuggy's.

You simply cannot confuse a Beetle with any other car in the world ever.

i loved my volkswagen ever since a bloke at work arrived in a 67 slammed resto-cal. it was so cool i asked him to take me to my year 6 farewell in it. there were hotrods and motorbikes, but the beetle got heaps of attention.

since then ive owned a beetle, and now a kombi. i think its because the cars and what they symbolise match my personality to a tee - fun, quirky, different etc.

The thing i love most about my vw's is making them look different and stand out more then every other car on the road (sorry not into the original look). Getting people to favour a 35 or so year old car over a brand new car. Then once you do that i love all the reactions you get from all sorts of people, just makes you laugh.

Their absolute simplicity compared to any other car, as well as originality and destinctive looks.

My mates still bag me out about my praise and hype towards vee dubs compared to most other cars, they can't work it out. They had even threatened to go and buy a cheap beetle, andlight it up and burn it in front of my eyes to get me to shut up bout them. Lol

hey, with your year 12 work and the body of work that needs to be completed you could possibly explore your different ideas on the rat/ rust vee dubs and the showroom condition dubs or foxy's idea of the morphing bug in different works to develop and explore your ideas. You may end up going with one of them or combining the imagery that you like from several together.
What media/medium are you thinking about using?.

hey,
i was thinking about either doing documented forms; photography mainly or maybe doing the paint thing.
i wanted to do the 'wow' photos of a veedub.
like with sunsets, sunrise, night time etc
that kinda thing.
yeh im really not sure wot im gonna do!
this morning i handed in my progress of my body of work which had some drawings of veedubs and some watercolours amongst other artworks.

VeeDubs also convey diffrent personas. They all usually need some work done to them and diffrent people go about it diffrent ways. Thus a unique character has developed. They might look the same but no two vws are exactly the same.Hope this helps.Wotabout showing a shiny beetle getting neglected and becoming a rat?

the fact that im not part of the crowd following current design trends and that my car is unique where i work and it stands out. the fact that i love the look on peoples faces when i pass them on the freeway in a 30+ car. the way that most people that drive a vw share an idea about their cars being special and having personality

i love mine because shes an individual.

every where we go we get people waving and smiling, just cause shes so colorful. And u cant mistake her in a car park...its not llike im looking for another boring compact. A

They are a great talking point. I pull up outside a place...and everyone is asking about the beetle. Everyone can relate to them.....everyone we meet has a story..."when i was a kid my parents owned one'... or 'when i was younger i had one..."
