Here again tonight, admidst the lights and colours of beautiful Brisneyland. I'm actually stuck in a small, secure room in the centre of the building, surrounded by 18 PC monitors, 2 security camera screens, and a TV, without even a window to the outside world. 🤪
Only three to go until I get a couple of days off in a row, which hasn't happened for more than 4 weeks!

Just got informed tonight that I have another week of these grave shifts to go.

I actually had some work to do for a few hours there ..mostly wiring up the new LED taillights for my Sabre 😁
My availability is 24/7/365. There is a roster system, but it's highly variable because of the nature of the work.
I work for QLD Rail in Computer Operations. I'm part of the team that monitors the data processing centers' server farm and IBM mainframe. Basically we maintain the QR national user network - read we don't control the trains.
But the damn machines are so reliable now that mostly there is very little to do during night shifts, though when the Mistral meets the faeces, things can get quite interesting. A major system failure (or an Unscheduled Outage - love that phrase!) will have a team of support staff here in 15 mins, and techs within the hour.
