I was just sitting back tonight having a think about all the road trips that my parents use to take my brother and I on when we were kids.
Whether it was just from brisbane to the sunny coast or brissy to canberra we were guarenteed to be stuck listening to Slim Dusty.
Funny thing is that now, as a 27yr old i sneak off when my wife is not around and listen to a bit of ol' Slim. Especially "lights on the Hill".

All the country stuff, Charley Rich/Pride, Tom Jones. Slim of course, and a bloke called James Last! My dad was an interstate truckie. Boy did we have some great adventures, this was back in the days when some of highway one was still dirt and mostly two lane blacktop. sometimes when the road was cut by floods or breakdowns, we would be stuck for days. The drivers would make big camps and all sorts of activitys were indulged in.

But it was good, dunno any exact tracks, but i grew up with it, and liked it..
hmm, speaking of radio, how much Does b105 suk now that they lost their signature morning crew...

I love listening to it all still, makes me smile and think of the memories i have of fighting with my sister over the last packet of twisties in the bag and whose turn it was to 'pull dads finger'! 🙄

My parents split when I was a young lass...
In Dad's car I remember: Eurythmics, Travelling Wilberries, Billy Joel, U2.
In Mum's I remember: Dire Straits, ELO, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple.
I guess that lot isn't so bad looking at some of the above :P but I used to hate it all at the time! 😉
mum loved to inflict us with Dory Previn and Carly Simon..... I hate Dory Previn, hate hate hate her, (which is probably what she would like to hear) 🥷 :puke
dad was more the Cat Stevens fan... 👍
Heres some for ya..
My mother STILL makes me listen to
*Kane Alexander, Bond, Josh Groban and yet still some Cat Stevens.
On not only the road trips, but everyday drving!
**Wispers to self, license next year license next year license next year....**
My Dad always had 2CH on in the car. On road trips I can't remember, but I think he'd just tune into the local radio station.
I'm wary of what I make my kids listen to aswell, so I'm hitting them up with New Order, Jeff Buckley, Beck, and whatever 80's stuff I can find. The thing is, I wonder if in 10 years time they'll regret it?? LOL.
when the were still together: abba, john denver from what I can remember.
probably willie nelson too, knowing dad 🙂
Later, dad was right into Billy Fields.

Im too old....Im inflicting my kids....lol...
We eventually had a cassette deck, Barry Manilow (mother) and Box Car Willie (Father). But they only had three tapes - they copied Abba - Arrival from the Library on their Stereogram, using a Tandy condensor mic. Nice work.
Loves a lolcat
My dad is right into Elvis, The Beatles, Roy Orbison, Cliff Richard. When I was a kid he used to crank up the volume on the old tape deck and I used to be so so embarassed but now as an adult I have to say that this is my favorite music. Long live the king!!!!
🤘
we song lalalalalala.now my kids have to listen to RRR & JJJ and they complain don,t figure
My Parents listened to War of the Worlds once on the way from Adelaide - Melbourne while my brother and I layed in the back of a Celica Hatch. Not very safe and the story scared the s--t out of us. Laying in the back of a car at night listening to that in the middle of anywhere looking up at the lights and starts. not good when your under 10.

C'mon kids gather round,
there's a new sensation hitting town,
It's moving straight, low to the ground,
it'll pick you up when your feeling down.
my mum listens to triple J but dad refuses to turn stereos on
no matter what when hes in the car its the scanner no buts about it
driving long distance listening to the cops crap on is very boring
i usaully take a mp3 player LOL
Joel
John williamson, best of abba is always blasting from my dads 4wd, and its what we always played when we did the cruise down to melbourne.
mum doesnt listen to music when driving. though recently we got her hooked on wolfmother, shes a little cooler than my dad...
My brother and I always had to endure Tina Turner, Tom Jones, Aretha Franklin and of course Abba.. but I always loved Abba.. if only they knew 😀
I usually listen to Fox fm, but when we do put a cd on, its usually Green Day....though the kids and I went through a fad of listening to the soundtrack to the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Typically full blast and singing our lungs out badly...LOL!!!!

I think im way older than u guys...
my parents made me listen to MAX BYGRAVES....I hoped to be able to listen to Abba, Elvis and the travelling wilburries.
Although I do remember dad often playing the original Roy Orbison tunes. Plus things like Sonny & Cher, Tom Jones (when he was young) as well as more Max Bygraves.
However, I am now old enuf to make my own kids suffer, but somehow I lost control and am now forced listen to their music. 🙁
I will be so happy when they get their own cars, which should start at end of this year for eldest daughter, who in turn is having to take her sister to school (If she wants a car that is...hehe)
Then its ALL my own music.
dubless. 🥲
🥷 And who the helled parked the Mitsubishi "Prancer" under my house??? 🥷
We didn't have a radio, so it was just the revs of the old Holden 6, the drone of the muffler, the whine of the diff, the and the kettle sound whistle of the air on some sharp edged trim on the car somewhere.

The old man never had a radio in any of his utes.
Mum, on the other hand, had the Fairlanes & the music was classical.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
702 ABC am radio or 2GB.
Ok I spose, except the cricket and footy are the most boring things in the world to listen to as a kid. Still can't stomach it now.
In their youth my oldies were into 60s folk. I HATE FOLK MUSIC!!! :cussing
If I hear, "all bound for morning town", I want to commit homicide. The sad irony is that my natural inclination in my own song writing is to sway back towards folk sensibilities...and what's more I'm actually good at it. If only Peter, Paul and Mary could have played pop instead of just doing amazing parodies of it.
BTW, my inlaws names are Paul and Mary. There is no escape from bad coincidences and folk roots.😢
It was never music when dad was driving.
But the radio was always on... I reckon I could tell you the names of every racehorse or greyhound that raced in the 1970s thru to the 1980s.
ABBA, and in a Renault 12.:alien
.
Like Helbus...no radio in the car and cassettes hadn't been invented. We were lucky though, 'cos if we did have music in the car, we would have been listening to Dean Martin, Ray Charles or Tijuana Brass. Go on, beat that!!
