that is freaky!! 800cc? or 600cc?? i dosn't look like it gets too hot, but im suprised that it cools properly that blue paint will stop it breathing.
i don't think i'd like to be 1000feet up on half a vee dub motor, oh and don't forget that depending on your "scrounging ability" you might even get it done on the cheap!! why are you throwing that engine out again? oh a dropped valve? no worries i wont use that cylinder!!

you'd think if he was tyring to save weight he'd chop some of the crankcase apart - the cylinders dont weight much!

Just think of the airflow with a cooling fan the size of that..... maybe the paint is to keep it warm........lol

Yeah, the airflow it would cop would be insane.

I gotz myself a radio control single cylinder plane, nice yellow one with 1.4metre wingspan... after the thing flys around with full throttle, when it comes and lands (when the engine runs dry of fuel and i glide in), the engines cool to touch right away

Chris, sorry to tell you this, but Dr Porsche adapted the VW boxer from aero engines of his day, so it's not really a new idea.

My twin seaterKR2s had a Revmaster 2180 with twin magetos and plugs. Would have looked cool with a couple of IDAs sticking out the cowl.

That seems a bit pointless. Why bother? That engine would be lighter, but the problem is that small aeroplane engines are not cheap, so I suppose half a Beetle engine will do a good job. I'd certainly fit dual spark heads and a dual ignition system.

Ther Subaru AE81 engine is very popular for aeroplanes because it was designed to be an aircraft engine from the beginning. It was put into a car because it would not have sold in sufficient numbers if it was made as an aircraft engine. The EJ series is just following on.
