Ok, I have to make a decision about what I'm going to do with this car. I guess my primary aim is to sell it (as opposed to undertaking a resto). I think there are two ways I could go about doing that. The first is, get the carpets, fix up a few little things on it, get the rego and sell it, aiming at someone in late adolescence looking for a hip and economical VW. OR I could just sell as is to someone who'd be keen to do a resto.
I might need some help with that decision.
The details of the car: It's a 1966 Fastback TS. I'm the third owner. The one before me owned the car from 1971 to 2003 and is a mechanic and teacher at a tech school. He did a 6 to 12 v conversion on it. Still has original service booklets. Was registered its whole life up to 2004 and was a daily driver. Only reason for coming out of rego was parents concern over car's safety for new driver. Has original paint-- pretty good in most parts but for some minor dings, scratches and very small rust spots. Straight body overall, no prangs. Although, guy before me cut into the rear guards a bit to fit fibreglass flanges for wider wheels. Original trunk and hood liners, and upholstry but for the new dash pad that i just installed and a lack of carpets. Seats are good and intact. Roof lining firm and intact, but some discolouration/staining. I think that's reasonably comprehensive for now...
So, as is, I am thinking of a figure like $2500. If anybody can give me feedback on this, it would be much appreciated. Photos attached:
