One thing for some of you too have a think about, regardless of how you feel about Saddam, what he did & how he died, and how the western world removed him from his position in Iraq or even the motivations that lead the western world into Iraq.
Put all of that aside for one moment, and contemplate this…
When the US lead forces pull out of Iraq and they will go eventually, imagine for a moment how nasty the next guy who seizes power there, will have to be … he is going to have to beat out all the rival competition and over through what ever government forces may stand in his way and force that country into line and continue too squash any that would appose his rule.
Whoever this person may be, they will make Saddam look like a pussycat, and they will become a real threat in that region of the world.
And that is the truly disturbing thing about this all…:o

not necessiarly (can u tell...im an optimist?)
the leaders that followed after hitler and starlin weren't as bad...were they?
the fact we don't know the name of the leaders that followed them in the same way as we know stalin (sorry if spelling is incorrect) or hitler... would suggets that perhaps they were a little better...even if only a 'little'...so we can hope the next leaders in iraq will be better to
let's face it...hope is generally all we have when it comes to the future...
dubless. 🥲
🥷 And who the helled parked the Mitsubishi "Prancer" under my house??? 🥷
One of the problems with Saddam is that he was a standard model eastern potentate.
Since the times of the great Persian, Medean and Hittite kings such as Hamurabi, Ashurbanipal, Nebuchadnezzar, Sirus, and Xerxes the people in that region have been governed by men who were just like Saddam. It's what they have always had and it's what they expect of their rulers.
In the Middle East kindness towards someone who is not a member of your family or tribe or relgion, is looked upon as weakness.
Whoever follows Saddam must be every bit as hard, brutal, cruel and wicked as he was, or they will not be allowed to remain.
Democracy cannot be imposed from above. It can only grow from below with the people demanding it and supporting it. Try as they might the US, Britain and Australia will not leave a legacy of democracy in Iraq. The people may want it, but those who would govern them cannot tolerate it, and so the fragile flower will be allowed to bloom. It will crushed and the Iraqis will have another bastard in charge of them.
What they will have is another standard model eastern potentate.
Damn it! I really should read and edit this stuff before I post it.
The last should read------- and so the fragile flower will not be allowed to bloom. It will be crushed-----

background should never mitigate responsibility.
We should judge someone, as they are a responsible for their actions.
However who judges the judges?

according to the papers, he had a crappy, violent upbringing, he was repeatedly beaten as a child... could you really blame him for how he turned out to be? I actually feel sorry for suddam, in regards to what that bloke could have become if he was able to have a decent upbringing. It could have been a beautiful, successful life. He could have become an honorable liberator or hero. 🙁

I have some Saddam commemorative t-shirts for sale on ebay...
Bit tight around the neck, but they hang well.
link?
its interesting how he was done in by his accomplices. those who financed his regime through kick backs, and those who armed him during the Iran - Iraq war.
regardless how many people he killed, it doesn't give another man the right to kill him.
interesting topic.
was saddam judged and sentenced by an iraqi convined court or a US conveined court?
if it was the iraqi's who are we to comment, BUT if not how can we do to someone what we are convicting them of?
personaly i'd like to see Bush serving life with no parole, Howard aswell (Major while we're at it).
i see Bush as the biggest terrorist of our time, bar none. (i would say put them all up against a wall but i don't belive in corpral punishment)
i wish i was constitutional/international laywer to see if there were charges that could be brought against howard. if treason is off the cards, at least missaproapreation of gov funds, murder, umpteen thousand charges of assualt with a deadly weapon (you don't get a much deadlier weapon than a SAS soldier) etc. a little political accountability...
while we are dishing stuff out how about an OAM for howards inteligence advisor (can't remember his name) who quit them came public re no WMD's in iraq... standing up for what you think is best for your country without regard to what it will cost you personaly.
end rant for now...
