Hi guys. i just did my first valve adjustment 2 days ago... best thing i eva done to the thing, cause that engine and transmission purr so nicely now. LUV IT!

But... the brakes... i do know i need to do an adjustment to em... and check whether i need new shoes/pads. But just out of curiosity, i got a big clunking problem...

I would be chugging along in my bug and when i then depress on the pedals of the brake i hear this big clunk. They still work, but makes a hell of a noise. and only when braking in a forward direction and not a reverse :o

We had this trouble to my mother's 97' ford laser, turned out being some shims that were misplaced from the brake fellas, dunno if it would be the same go here... i wouldn't have a clue.

any help would be sweet guys... i do know my drums are in need of a major adjustment... could it be that? too mcuh free play making them move around and clunking/thumping with pressure?

BTW, i got front disk brakes and rear drums... 1969 semi auto.

best regards,
christopher.

i'd first check the calipers are on tight

ie there are 2 bolts on the inside (wheel can be left on)

they may be loose (do bth sides)

while at it check wheel bolts if tight
want any vw bits old but like me, Made in Germany!!!

How to fix the shuddering in the brakes:
1. Get a gas axe.
2. Cut your brake pedal off.
3. Drive really fast.

Shims or maybe a pad separated from the backing?

Disc calipers loose (nod to bushed) or bearings worn/poorly adjusted?

Or maybe just shiny discs and pads. May just need a machine.
A POSSE AD ESSE.
