uh oh, you are going to cause problems in the UK. I can see the volkszone thread now. UK bus going to OZ. save UK buses there arent enough good ones left.
Yes. It is quite unusual but damn sure I'm gonna sell it to someone before I leave after all the work i've put it to it so far.
I'll let you know if it reaches the magazines. lol
At least I know I'll be extended it life by about 50 years by bringing over.

ONYA! 👍
Just out of interest, how much would it cost to send a vw bus to the UK via ship?
And the second dumb question for the day is do they put them in sea containers or..................?
(this is just a question and I dont own a bus or going to own a bus or are sending anything to euroland.)

As i understand it, if you drop the engine out of the vehicle then it can be imported as parts so the tax is less to pay upon entry.
There are different ways of exporting goods such as stowage, hire a small or large container.
The bus will be in a container along with the rest of my belongings I decide to take in to the country so prices vary from £1800 - £8000...that I have been quoted.
With me emigrating and goods sent over are not for business use then entry costs should be a little cheaper.
Thats as i understand it.
I have also heard to pay alittle more for the container so it doesn't get placed on the top of the stack during transit as some do tend to get lost over board....perish the thought.

I agree with most of Samblers sentiments....
somebody made mention of there being an upshot to it in that our kombis will become more valuable... yeh thats fine if you are a slimey sheister like the folks behind Gday Kombis and vwpartsrecycling who only see dollar signs when they buy up a cheap rustfree camper and ship it to there own shores.
But what if you are one of the hundreds of Australians who dont give a fuck about the resale value ever increasing, preferring to simply enjoy them for what they are rather than how much cash they will rake in?!?!
I'd like to still be able to readily access half decent 10 years from now, and buy my future kiddies Kombis without selling my left testicle if they hgappen to also catch the Kombi bug!
If increasing value is your motive for keeping a classic car... for instance an early bay, then you are in it for entirely the wrong reasons. It's like those wankers who do up WRX's and instantly plaster wanky For Sale stickers on the back windows! :puke:
I personally wouldnt give a flying rats ass if my bay camper was still only worth $5000 in 10 or 20 years time, as I have no intent to ever sell it anyway, and Im sure a lot of people would feel the same way... IMO, the value appreciation factor is very hollow and cheap justification to allow Kombis to be taken from our shores by the bucketload... :puke
But hey here's an idea to ponder... who feels like rounding up some nice good condition koalas and tassie devils to export over to england and the US???... it is very rare to find a nice rustfree low-milage example over there so it'd be a great cash-cow. And after all... they are only going to get wiped out by chlamydia and deforestation if they are left here on our soil... :duh
Flame my ass all ya like... it wont change my mind

Hey you might aswell send what ever you want to the UK we have everything else. Just as long as they are not educated or with no money and can bludge on the UK society then no doubt we'll have em. lol

While I appreciate what you are saying...I would love to re-visit this post (which I doubt will be possible) in another 20 years. You may have "no intentions of selling it" now but you are YOUNG and I'm sure your life will change dramatically within the next 20 years, so that is a fairly bold statement to make.... The way it's going,if you can find petrol it will probably cost $5000 to fill your tank in 20 years,so the vehicles value wouldn't be of concern !! I've also got a "rare" VW that i know I will never sell. It was never sold here in OZ so is a private import and the likelyhood of it's value increasing is not why I want it. If my circumstances changed and I was forced to sell for any reason then $$$$ would talk.I wouldn't care where it went.Everyone has a differing opinion though and that is fine.:beer

Yet another unfounded comment........MOST classic car collections, apart from stating the obvious (the collectors like cars) DO appreciate in value, and are veiwed as an appreciable asset by the collectors, banks and financial institutions. In fact the purchase of cars for a collection is seen as an investment financially, plus the collectors just like cars!!! Yes I do know a few classic car collectors.2 of them have very early beetles, but non would suggest an early bay as some sort of classic collectable.....their appreciable value has not increased enough to make them viable and there are too many of them around to be any sort of "endangered species".
Anyway....a "Bay Window" is a commercial vehicle,not a car, but in some ways it's a classic......who would have thought.....Bloody Hippy Trucks:jesus:alien

That white on blue 57 was for sale for quite awhile for $10K...I guess no one here thought it was worth it here in OZ so its off to the UK. I guess to keep the buses here we have to start paying what they are worth on a world market..not an aussie one.
As long as it goes to a good home thats the main thing. People will always try and make a profit..thats just life...we all do it in some way or another.
**No one 'ownes' anything in the present...it is on loan from the future.

BIdder 1, Bidder 8 etc is the new way Ebay displays auction histories whilst they're still live 😉
Anyways, for what its worth, even if i was selling my bus, Sod the extra money I would only sell it to someone living in Aus (and preferably WA so i could still see it driving around!).
The blue splitty was for sale in Vic, came down from the NT. I think the original ask was 15k then 10k. I asked for some extra pics when it was being sold, 10k is a lot of money for something that needed a fair bit of rust repair and paint to get nice. It's right that splitty prices have gone up, but it's not really the price of the van that puts people off, it's the price of the spares and rust repair that's the shocker, that's why people baulk at those prices here, who wants a split sat in the garage, waiting till you can get all the bits together and someone to do the work.

There's a reasonable '79 half panel rusting slowly not thirty metres from the beach..it's mine and you can have it...for a grand...ok...$990, that's what I need to put into our VW's that ARE NOT going O.S...Why so much bitching about what you don't have?...it's right in front of you.... And I'm not just talking about mine. Good luck to all searching for their ideal VW, I honestly hope you find it....Don't forget to breathe! :kiss

Only since 1977... before that they were by and large born AUstralian citizens! :p
Oh and there is a 1971 bay panelvan in the film clip to Downunder, so therefore Captain Schmo says the Kombi is also an Australian icon...

This has been my point when this subject comes up again & again & again.
These vehicles don't just magically materialize when the exporters come to town. They were always there & our mob either don't want 'em or aren't prepared to pay for 'em.
I'll repeat myself again on this line as well; As far as selling anything goes, he who hands me the cash gets the goods. Where one of my cars go when it leaves my driveway is none of my concern. It aint mine anymore.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
