Second son got his licence today....but he can't make up his mind what sort of car he wants. Although he did want an EH a little while ago.
I pointed out that they were old (built the same year I was) and may be prone to breaking down to which he replied....but thats what you're for.

i'm screwed

that's hilarious...😂
type_one wrote:Hmm My theory is you must of let him have way too much water growing up and now he's accustom to it and just has to have water in his diet. Had you deprived him more of water he may have realised AIR is the way to go and not looked back....
um, yeah right, air VS water again. VW have been watercooled since the 80s. Porsche have been totally watercooled for more than 10 years now. Even harley davison have seen the light...or should I say the lake. So let it go please.

I hope he enjoys his rotor, RX7s are great cars. Sure they are not VWs, but who cares. Porsche 356s aren't VW either but most of you would give your right nut for one. I personally hope he can combine the two interests and put a rotor in a beetle. I've got some frighten vids of rotor powered rallycross beetles. Be great to see him do something like that. 👍

My comiserations
Al.
my missus engine rebuild including new o rings seals etc plus new rotors plus installation cost less than this and from a reputable rotary workshop and the engine in my buggy is now 20 years old and still going strong unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation about rotaries mostly from when they were first introduced back in the 60's.
weeeeeeeeeeell-- I had a ser 5 13bt rebuilt 12 months ago by Tony at Mr Rorary the cost was $6780.00 and that was using second hand end plates and a couple of other S/H bits. Tony also didn't charge me for about $250 worth of seals , I'm guessin that you did'nt need new end plates and rotor housings and by "new rotors"you're refering to apex seals--was it a turbo or N/A ? just interested--did you keep the missus car after it was fixed ??
Not just apex seal actual rotars NOS high comp ones they were the most expensive part of the build. That was 12 months ago and its stil running beatifully. It is NA if it was turbo it would've been cheaper because turbo rotors are about a third of the price.

forgive me father for I have sinned.

Oldest son (with rotary) came over for daughters birthday. Says "Dad take the RX7 for a spin". No I say, I will never get my arse in a rotary. However after a lot of "you're just scared" I took the 13B bridge ported RX7 for a spin. Lets just say it would leave his old skyline in it's wake. Not to mention the TAT. Mind you it still makes that mind numbing rotary noise...bap..bap...bap...bap...bap
However we will see. He's bringing it to the T&T next Wednesday.

again....i'm screwed

Let me also add, he had to go outside 15 minutes before he left to warm it up as quote "it's a dog to drive when it's cold" as he looked in his wallet to see if had some money to put fuel in it to get the 20kms back home and as the neighbours came out to see what the racket was......🤪

Its funny how N/A rotarys seem fast, as do motor bikes.
But line them up against a good volksy and reality sets in.

Rotary with boost? Well, that is a whole different story, anything with boost can be fast.

On another related topic, a son that comes to his sisters party, and talks often with his dad,
has good family values
and it is a sign that you have done everything just right Stanley.

Thanks Dave...he is a good kid. If buying a rotary is as bad as it gets I can live with that...:thumb
