Just pulled the rear brakes off my 56 bug and the cylinders are pitted. I was told that these are no longer available. Does anyone know if this is correct or somewhere that does supply old stock perhaps.

I suppose if they aren't available anymore my only option is stainless sleeving of the cylinder, would anyone happen to know what this would be likely to cost.

cheers
Ivan

your local brakes supplier will be able to let you know about the sleeves

car forums. where a lot of peoples good intentions end up taking a good old car off the road forever never ever to see the road again. 🥲

From memory last time i had sleeves put in to wheel cylinders / master cylinder it was pretty damn close to what new cylinders would have cost, but you will now have the benefit of stainless steel bores.

Do they attach with 2 x 6mm bolts or 1 x 8 mm bolt

The origional 2 bolt type are hard to find and you should get them sleeved and fit new rubbers

If you have the single bolt type then they are available easy from Vinatge in Sydney 02-9789-1777
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true

Thanks to all for that info.

Yeah I just realized today that they are the unoriginal single bolt type. I'm guessing this would mean that its off something like a 58 onwards, and thus would need the same year shoes and not the 56 shoes?

cheers

there are 2 different types of shoes

the edge that fits into the adjuster is either square to the shoe or rounded

Dont inter change as they will lock up n bind check out if you hae tapered or square adjusters and if the pistons in the wheel cyclinder are similar

so your wheel cylinders are easy to replace with new ones no probs
