When it comes to oil coolers, I am concerned that engine off the cooler is emptying back into the sump and giving a false reading n the dipstick.
When designing hydraulic systems you use check valves to ensure the flow is one way. No automotive types no what the heck I am talking about. So how do you guys avoid it?

Note the oil cooler is mounted at a 45 degree angle with the inlet at the top and the outlet at the bottom thus my fear of draining. (easy to swap I know and that's on for tomorrow!)

Stanley I guess the reward is in the doing of it

Best you will get is a 1/2 bar check valve. You can modify them by taking out the spring and will work at very low pressure. However check valves are also a good way of making your pump work harder. Pressure drop across an oriface and all that.
