I have the key and barrel, it is the switch mechanism at the back that has the problem. It is worn out, but not burnt out. It is a specific type of switch as it is a die cast housing unit. The later ones are plastic switches, and there are different one s with steering locks.

Just to clarify, it is the die cast metal switch mechanism I need. It will have a fair bit of wiring attached as the wiring is soldered to the back of the switch. It is held into the back of the ignition barrel by a small grub screw..

Anyway if anyone has one, please PM me. Our beetle is off the road for two weeks now, and any help would be appreciated.

Hi

I believe that the same switch also fits 71-74 Bay windows as well. I guess you have tried the usual suspects for one? Try Aircooled.net, they have them for $34.95 US.

Or you could convert the column to a 72 model and get the wipers on column.
