I've just got a '72 square on the road and need some bits and pieces. Brisbane preferably, although the smaller bits could be posted.

- windscreen and chrome trim (and if someone has a new rubber left over, otherwise I'll just get one from one of the VW shops)
- rubber mat for rear storage area
- black knob for the drivers seat tilt adjustment
- oil-bath air filter inlet rubber sleeve (for a 1500 single carb engine, side draft Solex 32PHN carby)

I'm also after a tow-bar, may have one but in case that falls through. Only to tow a catamaran, doesn't need to be heavy-duty as boat and trailer are probably only 300kgs.

There will no doubt be more as time goes on. There is a bit of a rattle from the passenger side engine support but need to look at it more before I know what I need.

Angus, 0412 105 789 or just post reply/PM.

found the reason for the rattle - cracking in the body support. not the 'main' section but the piece on the bracket folded over onto the body. Not about to fall off but if I leave it go the crack will move around onto the main support. I can't weld but can take it to work and get it fixed.

If you have that knob that would be great.

May have found a windscreen at mick motors, mine has some star chips and I only got the RWC on the promise that I'd replace it ASAP!

Thanks for the replies

Cracking there is not uncommon!
Make sure you have a good look where the bumper bolts to the body, they rust out from the inside. I'd be very worried about towing with a type 3.

Andy

I'll check there. The car has spent most of its life on the New England Tableland so is pretty good for rust. I'm changing that as we are about 250m from the water at Wynnum/Manly!

I've remembered I need a window winder as well, plus the retaining set screw for it.

No problems, I'll take a photo of the winder tonight and send it off.

I could have a tow bar, I'll have to dig around...also I'm in Sydney - but have a freight contact that is very economical.

- black knob for the drivers seat tilt adjustment
Is that the big round one on the bottom of the seat

or the small one on the side of the back support about half way up ??? that you lift up to allow the seat to go forward so u can get into the back seat
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true

Thanks for looking Aaron.

Dave, it is the knob on the middle of door side of each seat base used to adjust seat tilt. I'll have to look again but on mine the 'access knob' on the seat back to get into the back seat is the large one, the seat tilt one on the base is smaller from memory. I'm having a few typical teething problems on a car unused for a few years, so not certain I'll be getting to Dubs in it. If not I'll just pick up the rear mat at Boondall.

we are going striaght to the Pub not going in the convoy

the square knob on the seat base is to adjust the back n forward movement of the seat base

the round knob 50mm is for the adjustement of the seat back about 10 clicks

so which one is it ???

My seats have three different knobs to control things.

There is a square knob beside the tunnel which is used to slide the whole seat forward and back - controls a pin under the centre of the seat.

There is a large knob on the outside edge of the seat back which you slide up to tilt the seat forward in order to get into the back seat.

There is a smaller black knob on the outside edge of the seat base which is used to control the angle of the seat back. It is this last one that I am after. I'll try to get a picture, I may have an odd seat? I don't know type 3s but they look like the originals.
