Twin plugs , gotta love em. How much extra HP do they make over the same spec single plug 1916 do you think Craig??

Craig,Congrats to you and Stan! Be interesting to see how one of Stan's potent Hillclimb Engines goes at the drags!

I notice the readout says the dyno was in shootout mode. that wouldn't boost the readout would it? 🥷

but seriously, 138hp ATW from an under 2litre, natrually aspirated, 2v per cyl, pushrod 4 is very impressive. your not tempted to put some IDAs on it are you?

I thought shoot-out mode was the one that didn't add the 'boost'. Anyways, i reacken the drag is the real tester (even though gearboxes and drivers, weight etc make a difference). Heard of a guy with a bug that spent thousands on a dyno tune and was told he had an extra 20hp from the 'fine tuning', yet his 1/4 mile times were the same....hmmm, i wonder how effective the 'fine tuning' really was????

How do you ever know if your dyno is for true HP? The bigger reading you get, the more you can brag, the more money Mr Dyno makes....

In saying that, im not having a lend of Craig, i was blown away by the base 1916 without plugs, let alone the steriod with twin plugs.

I was being silly.

I'm sure that's a real world figure. Craig has nothing to gain from pretend numbers. He already owns the titles. 👍

Hi Gents,

New member, second post. Picked up a 70 Ghia Vert recently. Looking at a restoration down the track, but aiming for mechanical reliability in the interim.

Spoke to Stan Pobjoy last week regarding the base 1916, but might be overkill for what I need. Not interested in 1/4 mile times, however a little get up n go with great reliability would be nice.

Any suggestions, feedback would be appreciated. I'm based in Sydney. Not sure if there are regular gtg, where I could get some advice and direction.

Sorry if this is O/T and hijacking the thread.

Cheers,

Nikos

ha, not having a dig at you Pete or Craig, just find it to be an interesting topic. Got a mate who has a turbo charged 1300 mini (starlet engine) boasting 145hp, but runs late 14's at the drags. i would of thought he'd be quicker (again depends on weight, tyres etc (though he weights 65kg).

And my understanding is that theres an old dyno scale and a new one.

Heard of a bloke that drove to one dyno and got one reading, then drove straight to another and got 25hp higher reading.

I'd like to dyno my car but want a true reading.

I thought a Dyno Dynamics with shootout mode standardises readings, allowing for climatic conditions, altitude etc. Therefore these dyno's Australia wide should be considered equal.

What I do find interesting is that no other dyno numbers from other forum members has been challenged or scrutinised in any way!

I guess DB will chime in.

Hi

A common way that people cheat with dyno figures even in shoot out mode is to alter BP (barometric pressure), if you look on the bottom of Craigs chart you will see BP: 101.5 which is the correct BP for dyno shop situated in Sydney.

Gotta be happy with the result, and know it will cop your abuse for years to come !
Do the twin plug heads make that much difference ?
where is the second plug located ?

How much of a deviation from the standard 1916 pobjoy offerings ?

He's definitely the mad scientist of the VW engine world. POBJOY does some crazy stuff and produces the numbers where they count.

Great stuff
