I have a 1970 type 3 squareback, & am having an intermittent starting problem.

Around 1 out of every 4 to 5 times i turn the key to start the car, i get a single click
& the car doesn't crank over. Nothing happens.

i turn the key back to the off position & try again & usually within 3 or 4 attempts
the car cranks over & starts as per normal.

Some days, it starts first turn of the key, & others it takes a few attempts to get it to crank over.

Any ideas as to why this is happening. Is it the sign of a failing solenoid or starter motor?

Car has a new battery (only about 10 days old), & because it eventually cranks over, im fairly sure its not the battery.

cheers
Mike
