Thanks , Pod . That engine in the link is already sold 🙁

and I got my baby in the workshop , with the engine out , and paying a daily fee util I find an engine.

any ideas about how much should I pay for a full rebuild ?

my current engine still run ok , but Its got a lot (1/4 Inch !) of end-play . The front main bearing is actually spinning with the crankshaft and leaking oil like crazy ..

I have a rebuilt twin port engine for sale, just up to tappet covers, no tinware, it has a machine in 88mm bore kit so displaces 1679cc, all new bearings, reco heads with new valves, it is on a type 3 case, but can be made to fit a Beetle. price is $950. engine is in Nowra.

Thanks !

If you have a twin port engine in your car now it would not be hard at all, I can supply a bolt on dip stick tube, he would need to drill and tap a pressure switch hole (has to be done very carefully as not to get any swarf in the oil gallery), or you can run a type 3 oil cooler with a pressure switch.
