The final outcome beside the young ladies loss of her prized car is its another bug off the road, they are getting scarce now, how often do you see a bug on the road during your travels, not often.
If its insured maybe someone on the forum can help out with a body shell etc
Steve
I'm currently scanning everywhere I can, trying to find a good shell etc.
If anyone may be able to help us with that, that'd be fantastic.
Cheers
ebay is often still the best
carsales.com.au gets some cheap ones on occasion, as not many people look for classics on there

They could have spent their excess energy doing volunteer garden work at a school, blackberry bush removal in a national park etc., and did some hard digging until they sweat. Sweat with satisfaction for a job well done, and something back into the community.
F ing BUM holes yes as per above of with there hands

Yes, the car was insured, it's being assessed some time next week.
My were really keen to get this beauty back on the road again as it really does still mean a lot to us.
We'll be bringing the car home asap and working out a plan of attack.
Glider69 thankyou so much for your kind offer, you should have seen the look on my sister's face when I told her, really put a smile on her face.
We will keep you informed as the project progresses.
Thanks again guys, the support is fantastic.
It really empowers that unspoken vdub community vibe.
Up the dubs!!
Peace.
absolutely shattered to see such a nice little bug destroyed,I hope your sister was insured and replaces or rebuilds the litttle girl.hope someone has a nice shell for her.
I cannot fathom how your sister feels...words wouldn't be able to discribe this... 🙁....I cannot help with a shell but if you can put a list of parts needed up maybe I may have something in my garage she could use...or anyone else may have a part also to donate....Hope we can put a smile on her face soon...judy x

If you need any little odds and ends, i have a bit of stuff. Only too happy to donate 😉
heyaaa feel so so sorry for you guys. pricks.
just thought i'd add i've got a fair bitta stuff, if your after something give us a yell and i'll see if i can help..
got most stuff although may be a lil early??
dunno just thought i'd add.
🙂
The car was assessed today and from an insurance point of view it's a write off.
We have salvage rights, they're being negotiated at the moment, we'll know the outcome of that in the next few days.
If all goes to plan we'll bring the car back to Mona Vale and then we'll need to work out where to go from there (the pan doesn't seem to have endured any damage so resto plans etc are definitely on the cards).
My sister still gets really worked up about it and the whole family really appreciates everyone's support.
The NSW police are investigating and there have been some promising developments.
We're not going to take this lying down and we're pretty determined to bring the car back to life.
Everyone's expressions of sympathy and support have been an enormous boost.
We've been down to the holding yard and took some additional shots.
Once we get it back here, we'll assess the situation and keep you posted.
Again, your support has been awesome.
Great to hear Hoodride.
I truly hope you catch the pricks who did this. They deserve all they get.
a shame.. totally.. but..
good to hear some progress has come about..
my 2c worth - a broken roof means a broken ride so for a me a new body would be my cuppa tea..
lookin fwd to see what comes about in the end..

i just don't understand people like that....what a shame.
hope you get em!
Being a VW it could be rebuilt with a bit of effort. Looks like the car has been to hell and back! Make sure this time it has a fuel cut off and alarm/imobilizer.
Good luck with the rebuild or whatever you decide on...

who ever did this obviously have no respect for anyone or anything.
what goes around comes around, they'll get whats coming to them.
Hope all goes well when ya get it back.
Look forward to seeing your progress.
If that happened to my Delilah, id be devastated. Hopefully the body isn't bent or warped and the roof could be popped out, or even a new centre stitched on from a rusty beetle. Hope all goes well and that the bug can be rebuilt, that would be the best ending to a sad tale 🙂
Cheers Bill
this is devastating, but on the up side it can be rebuilt i should know just look at the pics of chaos and what happened to him.

Heres an idea.
Stick on a trailer and take it to Valla, there will be enough parts we negotiate out of the swap meet and over a few beers some of us guys who have been around a while and Dave Birchall can get stuck into it and get it ready for paint on Sunday, then pick up a trophy and drive it home.
It would be good to show how it is done.
What do you think, I can throw some dolies, a hammer, grinder and sander in with me, someone bring a MIG and a compressor.
We will have an AVD project weekend.
Cheers,
David

another shell will see it back in action pretty easy
but as rexy said that body's shagged big time
not even a dedicated panel beater would fix it
kink in the drivers rear quarter below the window line from the roll over is terminal not to mention other irrepairable damage
itll still be the same car with another 1500/1300 shell and everything else swapped over
another shell will be easy to find and not much effort to swap either
good ones go cheap on ebay all the time thanks to the offroad/buggy brigades
Shane isn't that you and Bob in the background at the Nationals in the 1st pic on the 1st page of this thread?
So you live at Mona Vale a cool Beachy area, your sister is young (I do not normally go down the chop top route) but I say chop it and make a cool convertible, roof problem solved and you still get to keep the car.
Just need to hunt down one of those reinforcement subframes.

Hi guys,
We were planning on comming to Valla, but that's when the car was on the road.
I'll be bringing my bug but we just need a mode of transport for this one.
Has anyone got a spot on a truck or even a spare car trailer, we'd love to be there.
Cheers.
How awful! Your poor sister she must have been absolutely heart broken. There are some heartless idiots out there. All the best with fixing it up.. 🙁
