So after months of waiting for my green machine to make it to these Sydney shores, after a whole three days of driving I can't select any gears 🥲.
I think it's a clutch cable problem, is it common for the cable to stretch? Depressing the clutch pedal operates the clutch lever but not enough to disengage the clutch so that I can select a gear when the engine is running, (selector is fine with the engine off). It looks like there's no adjustment left so am I right in thinking it's stretched and it's time for a new one?

time for a new cabel and also the outer as well

also check the universal joint under the back seat and cover plate it joins the gear stick rod to the gearbox this may be loose or need replacing

are the 2 bolts that hold the gearstick in place tight these may also be loose

a few things to check
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true

I had the same drama in my baja, the outer steel tube had come off the pan inside the tunnel.

the cable is known to stretch before breaking

so its best to pull the old one out while its still in one piece

He said there was NO adjustment on the cable

He could always put a large nut or a few big flat washers on the cable under the wing nut..

but the cable is on the way out
and this may keep You going a little bit longer...

the cables stretch and break strand by strand..

My sentiments exxacly, it's got to be easier to replace this way.
Next Question, where is the best place to get a new one from? I'm new to the Aussie VW scene so haven't got a repertoire of suppliers etc yet and I'd like to know who provides quality parts, internet searches provide frustrating results.

Many thanks for your comments 👍
