while doing the resto on my 56 beetle had the fuel tank sitting around.Even though it was sealed, After painting it and removing the coke bottle bottom i had duct taped around filler neck I noticed bits of surface rust forming around inside. Anyone know of what i can do about this?

apply rust converter n se if you get any holes then it will require a bigger repair

I've seen in a UK magazine 'Practical Classics' they use stuff called a slosh coat for the insides of fuel tanks (obviously you pour it in and slosh it about😎). If anyone on this site knows of this stuff or a brand name it would be very handy

You could also fill up the tank with some nuts n bolts and a little kero or petrol

then slosh shake it around to remove the surface wash n flush out to remove any rust particles

i did this with my tank. Worked quite well. You can also just use some chain. Anything that will scrap off the surface rust flakey bits.
