Shudder is gone and all is well. Paul redid the timing and now it's running at around 90deg at 70mph up the highway.
Looks like we've licked this one. Roll on Valla 😀

I'm going to bring this topic back again after reading the latest VW trends. It has an interesting article on mineral oil vs synthetic oil. Get a hold of it and have a read. I'm not about to change over but it is food for thought.
For those interested heat was measured in all areas between an engine running both oils under controlled conditions. The temp difference was quite significant HOWEVER with synthetic oil the engine tended to leak more than normal. Anyway a good read on a good topic.:thumb

Hey Kafer69, Which oil ran cooler, the synthetic or mineral oil? (I've got synthetic in my car). It does seem to leak more than usual.
