Hmmmmmmm i have none of that, 🤪🤪. looks like its a trip to the muffler guy to get sum stuff.Jak Rizzo wrote:Do u have aheat sheild over the turbo? I have an alloy heat sheild over the turbo, thermo tech wrap on all the exhaust & also a thermo tech blanket wrapped around the underside of the intercooler to stop the heat soak.
it still doesn't explain the hot decklid. Unless it gets hot after sitting there a while from the heatsoak, but not while it's running.

landscape gardener you are😂Jak Rizzo wrote:Hi Steve
The fuel line I got from Repco for $3 a metre as apposed to $15 a metre for fuel injection line.
I have type 4 brakes on the front which are great ( & actually came from Steve C's wasserboxer bug) but I have Nissan GTR bakes ready to bolt on, they are now finished, just have to find the time to put them on

rear brakes are the standard Ford conversion thats been done since 2000
My gearbox guy doesn't like doing gearboxes, I had to twist his arm just to do CT's.
The type 3 motor funnily enough has been until only recently living in my front garden! it has been a long life dream of mine to have an engine block in my front yard. As u know it would suit my street beautifully...........
I've had it hidden in shrubs & mulch, my wife didn't even know it was there! Ahh living the dream.

Cmon, Andrew!GTMac wrote:Well done Jak, Im tired from reading let alone having to write all that up. I prob should at some stage as there are subtle differences as to what you need to do in a Type 3 compared to a Beetle but a lot of good info for people wanting the challenge. All I can say is do it!

Heheh...I agree...the ultimate road tourer/sleeper/weapon...when i stop playing with my kombi i might build one🤘Jak Rizzo wrote:Oh yeh, last bit of advice, if anything ever happens to my beloved superbug I will getting my dream car a 69 notch for a conversion. The type 3's are made for these subaru engines! there is so much room in the back
Andrew, knowing what we both know now, we could do a type 3 conversion in a weekend don't u think?

Yep! After planning and sourcing all parts, GTMac's engine conversion took two days, drive-in, drive out... But not including the radiator installation that was already done. A WRX is a very nice fit in a Type 3 Fasty or Notch - better than a Beetle; not as much metal to sliceJak Rizzo wrote:Oh yeh, last bit of advice, if anything ever happens to my beloved superbug I will getting my dream car a 69 notch for a conversion. I have been driving me superrex all week end and checking temp. the temp just seems to be heat soak on the left hand rear of the car from the radiator header tank and the radiator pipe that goes close to the engine lid😊Jak Rizzo wrote:Do u have aheat sheild over the turbo? Ok i added a couple of those flexy air tubes from auto barn to push air up to the intercooler, then wrapped exhaust pipe and added a heat sheild over the top of the turbo , I stuck a temp sender in the rubber hose between intercooler and inlet. Running around today in 34 deg heat intake temps 48deg on boost then comes back down to 39 cruzing along hwy at 115KsJak Rizzo wrote:& what are your inlet temps with that air to air intercooler? Just don't want u to kill your engine Ian.
