The baffles face down, so the top of it is flat. The centre baffle is longer, and 'points' towards the rear of the car - that is, towards the fanbelt pulley end, and away from the flywheel.

There should be a paper gasket between crankcase and baffle, and another between baffle and generator stand.

From memory the baffles and gaskets included in a normal engine rebuilt kit. It's hard to imagine why anyone would leave it out in a rebuild - wouldn't

The louvers need to face down and the open side to the right hand side of the car

looking at the pic above if ur looking down on the engine from the pulley end there facing the right way

this stops the crank throwing oil up through the slots which ends up dripping out the filler

sealant works much better than the crappy gaskets that come in most kits nowadays

I use two, one upside down above the other. This helps to stop oil going up there during BIG revs and during hard cornering.
