I must admit that since buying my daughter her '69 Bug I have learnt a heap. This forum has been invaluable to me and I'd like to thank everyone that has given freely of their advise and experience.

Though..there are a few things I'd like to clarify if anyone can please.

Is the later model 1300 motor (70 onwards) actually a 1600 block with 1300 pistons and barrels fitted to 'detune' it for reliability? Some have mentioned that the late model 1300 (AR******* engine numbered) Twin Port motors are amongst the best motors to 'hot up/rebuild for performance motoring..is this a fair comment and why not just fit a 1600 motor instead of doing up a 1300???

My daughter's bug has a Rear Suspension Compensating or Overload Torsion bar fitted...am I to rightly assume that since this was fitted to 1500s only then her car was originally a 1500?

What are the advantages of the '009' distributor that is fitted to it?

What is meant to be fitted between the heater boxs and the sump ? as there are a couple of tabs and bare mounting brackets that I can see.

Would actually fitting a flexible tube from the air intake of the air filter to the hole in the lower tinware beside the crank pully be beneficial?

Since my 16 yr "L" plate daughter is still at school and not flush with money...what would be some reasonably cheap add-ons that would add to it's reliability and performance that a bloke like me who is pretty handy with the spanners could do?

Oh...I'm still chasing a second hand ignition switch to replace the one I believe is giving us some starting problems.

yes the bore is small and has to b machined to fit the 1600 barrrels

yes that the lower tinware thats designed to move the hot air out the back of the engine

u need to purchase the plastic ignition switch whisch is below the key assy buy new around $50 and wont give u problems S/H ones will be just as good as the one u have

I suggets a trip down to Taree to GRUMBLES on here he will sort u out and has TOP advice especially on missing bits of tinware and cooling problems
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true

theyre cheap...... that is all
more disadvantages than anything

to start of with for a 16year old Lplater best of leaving it stock as possible

the 1300 bottom ends are the same as 1600
what you heard is just becuse the 1300 is alot more wheezy its less stressed so the bottom ends are usally less flogged than 1600

but the 1600 barrels slip straight in and are cheaper so most ppl usually go that way with rebuilds

009s are strictly mechanical advance, so they only sense engine revs not engine load so they work well in what they were designed for, drag engines and industrial motors which only have to idle or run flat bicky

they work ok when u got twin carbs or cam that frigs around the vacuum but for a stock motor stock works best

the stock SVDA has mechanical advance just like a 009 but also vac advance so it can sense engine load
makes for much smoother power delivery

if you go trawling through old posts the topic comes up all the time
