I am after an ignition barrel and also door locks (I'd like matching keys with all three locks), I have no idea where to look for them and have no idea how much they are worth. I have a snapped key in the barrel and the passenger side lock is buggered too from an attempted break in (before I bought the car).
Cheers AJ

HI
I have bought 2 door handles and ignition switch from the uSA with matching keys... for My 68 beetle...
found on the Samba...

I don't want the door handles sent over as the air freight makes it MUCH too expensive..
I only need the barrels and ignition switch
and You can buy VW or plain keys in the USA cheap, using the door lock number or key number..

so, You only need the barrels in the handles and keys...
but easier to buy used handles etc from one car....
You didn't give what year beetle You have...
they aren't all the same... ignition switches that is...

all the door handles fit.. 68> on...

cheers

LEE

PS: otherwise You put grooves in the keys so You know which ones fit where... Lee
The door handles are very easy to take out... lucky.. Lee

Well, I have some for sale in Adelaide from a 1970 1500 Beetle. Quite nice and shiny.

Matching set of door, boot and bonnet handles and ignition barrel, all in good condition. Doors and ignition keyed alike, two keys. Lock barrel missing in boot handle. $100

They're advertised in my thread here:

like H said, any locksmith will be able to key alike your handles

VW tumblers are basic as
I'm far from a locksmith but pulled my door and decklid handles apart and rearranged the pins to match my ignition

nothing worse than having 12 keys for one car, especially when they all look the same

Yes the door handles are all the same...

[well, they aren't really the same, but they all look and bolt on the same.. ]

Not sure on the ignition switch on the 1969 model...
whether the 70 model is the same...
would have to look it up on CIP1 etc..

Your 69 beetle was the ONLY beetle model to have the two levers to turn ON the floor heater vents in the front ...

cheers

Hi Joel,

All My keys have grooves cut into the side of them..
one groove = ignition
two grooves= drivers door
three grooves= passengers door
four grooves=engine lid lock

two other keys are different...lol
glovebox and locking fuel cap...

I have changed the door cylinder tumbler for another one as You had to push the key in then pull it out slightly while turning it... lol

PS: I don't think I would ever try to change the tumblers to different keys.. lol .. I fill them with petroleum jelly to stop the bits from falling out..lol

It's interesting, the glovebox manual for my bug says theres one key for ignition, doors and decklid lock if fitted

my bug still has the original logbook, sales reciept etc which has the factory key code written in it

my 2 door handles still have this code on them but my decklid lock and ignition barrel have different MO codes
Not surprised the ignition barrel wasnt original after 400,000kms but the decklid lock code is identical other than 1 number to the one of my yellow bug which is also 9/74
maybe dealer fitted locks or something
they werent from the same dealership, yellow bug came from Mossman service center new in sydney and my Lbug came from greg cussak motors in canberra

my original door keys actually have the MO code stamped on them which matches the code in the logbook

the tumblers were easy, with the key in i just switched the pins that werent in far enough with ones that stuck out 2 far till they all sat flush
