Hey. Just after some advice on what tires people have run on the vforce spider wheels.
I would really like to go for federal tires. 595's, but the only size that even seems close is a 195/55, 195/50 or 195/45.
any advice would be great 🙂
I was running 195 65 on rear and 195 60 on front
they were Yokahama C Drives
think you need to stay at like 620mm dia??
195/50 is down to 576 - TOO small in my books
looks weird
Have a play with this

I'm using the V Force Spyder wheels and running Yokohama C Drive 205/65/15 on the rear and 195/65/15 on the front. Which is pretty well what Richard advised. The rear tyres are pretty well equivalent to stock rolling diameter.
Car is a 75 L bug with original rack and pinion steering.
I was advised that the wheels would interfere with the stock struts, however, for some unknown reason they fitted straight on and cleared the struts. I went ahead and fitted V Force adjustable struts and dropped the front about 50mm and those tyres fit under the front guards just fine. I could slam it much further, as there is still room under the fenders.
Fairly certain I got the 20mm offset, which was the advice. Everything went as Richard said.
mmm...............20mmET for the back and 36ET for the front is normally the go

correct me if I am wrong, but standard struts/springs will not work, correct?
leaving me with this option, on the old school adjustable circlip struts
I can get the 195/55 but that is the largest in the tire type.
I can get 195/60 and 195/65 in these...
http://www.federaltyres.com.au/ss535
But i expect them to be a fair bit more that the regular 595's... maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.
I will be sending richard an email, but didnt want to seem like a complete idiot.
Regarding the standard springs, the word was that the wheels wouldnt fit as they would touch the springs.
But mine fitted, ET20mm.
I am just not sure about the springs though, they appeared to be stock diameter, not narrowed, and the only markings were three red paint marks together. ???
So my advice is if you just want to fit the Spyder rims, try and fit one front wheel if you can get your hands on it, just to see if you can clear the spring.
As for the spring/strut options, I did a lot of research and a significant number of posts around the world related the same story, that they tried all the cheaper options but eventually went to the professionally made, narrowed and shortened, threaded-body adjustable strut and wished they had done that in the first place.
yeah, I can see what you are saying uber kafer. But Another $1000 for struts is not on the books currently.
the topline tapered sports springs will still set me back $250 landed. I'm also hoping to go for a vforce strut top also. 🙂
Just trying to get a wider wheel for stopping and better brake cooling.
It seems I cannot get the 595's in the sizes i need (no longer made so small?) from my supplier. However he is offerening me 535's for quite a good price.
I can get them in 195 or 205, 65, 60, or 55 series. 🙂
if anyone has other suggestions about different brands, I'm open to that...
Yeah, i can relate to the pain regarding the cost of struts, which is why my "lot of research" took about two years, and even then I didnt tell my wife what the struts cost.....
But I gotta say.... the combination of Spyder wheels, lowered struts and modern tyres totally transformed the looks, ride and handling of the L Bug. Money well spent.
Well, luckily, I don't have a wife to explain were the money goes, but my parents ask alot of questions.
however trying to go from a stock height, every bush worn, badly braking super beetle - to a lowered beetle with nice wheels and efficient brakes, that handles and feels nice is going to cost a fair bit. it's worth it. But, instead of another $1000 for struts, that amount will go to a camera, and then a new guitar also... fun. 🙂
would be pretty darn happy if mine looked like this....
will be trying to find some squareback torsion bars before lowering.
Found out from STIDUB that my plans of the vforce strut tops won't be happening - too much modifying for wheremy car is at.
Had my first day of the new job yesterday, all going well, I should be well on my way with getting this stuff done by the end of April.
mustard, perhaps go to customveedub they have a set at the shop i think, perhaps if you asked nicely you could get a test fitment done, just clean the car around your wheels first though 👍

Without starting anything - has anyone had a set of Maxx engineered here??
Isnt the bottom cup held by a large circlip??
I believe the newer Maxx Extreme is a more direct comparison
Not sure if the Topline price is each or pair
All the others say pair - this one doesnt, and shocks not included

engineer was happy with mine, so am i for that matter
nearly half the cost of anything i could get here and ride quality is great
jon is very thorough and has good quality control so the only reasons for warranty returns would be down to operator error
Barry, thats per pair, the lower perch is tapered so it clamps the snap ring in place so its not physically possible for it to come out of its slot.
even on the lowest setting the springs still have tension on the cups
All of the topline gear looks good to me. Alot of my money will go there in the next few weeks.
Colonel,
Dependant on how muc rubber you want to fit under the front, other, cheaper options. I have 195/65r15 on empi 8 spokes under stock front guards on a L bug with stock dia spings. I have 30mm lower and 35% stiffer front springs on it . They are king springs, but not in the catalogue. I jsut used 30mm square rubber to space the guards out from the body.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!
I also know of a set of the V force wheels, never fitted second hand, just not sure of the et though.
