Probably the best thing about VW Mufflers is they do get hotcb john wrote:No coating, Zinc, heat resistant paint will last more than a few hours...heat expansion, contraction, water vapors, plus lots of other things will eat your mild steel exhaust, no matter what you do...or how much you spend to protect it..

🤪 WTF Lee??68AutoBug wrote:OK.. I'll recommend Hi temp paint on the outside and oil or grease inside..
the oil or grease will need to be added frequently...
as it will be burnt up....
maybe lithium based grease rather than the clay based green chassis grease....

Ceramic coating isnt THAT expensive
I just had it done
No it doesnt do the inside
Stock type exhaust / mufflers are going to be REAL hard to retro fit protection
The problem is you cant seperate exhaust and muffler on a stock set up
if you want to keep the stock exhaust "primo" Grumble is right
Put it in a box or drive it
Dont do 2km drive in it once a week
Thanks Bizzarre, there is no real answer and Definitely do not fill/coat it with oil ,the EPA and the police will be after you for the smoke as it burns off.
