All good in theory, there are many details beyond the 'getting stuff machined' so maybe a book or manual might help.
not enough info on bearings, best off measuring, there are many combinations of sizes, a good manual will tell you this, the mains go up in .5mm increments on the back and .25mm increments on the shaft, big end bearings also in .25mm increments. Your mains are .25 on the crank but that's all I can tell you, the symbol is KS from your description I think.
If it's been rebuilt recently, just hone the bores ( or get it done) and save yourself 3-450 clams for a new set, seeing your not machining anything, so outlays are minimal in case it goes BANG 🙂 If you want new, Mahle #1, Cofap usable, AA questionable...IMO
Brazilian is OK for some bits not for some others.....some you have no choice, that's why checking, blue printing, balancing and checking again is necessary for a quality build, it's all about wear and tolerances.

You'll also need gasket kit, gaskets that don't come in the kit, sealers, oil, sparkplugs, lots of cleaners and rags etc, and plenty of time 🙂.

Treat it as a learning experience and keep the cost down and what have you to loose.

Read Hellbugged's build and you'll see what it takes to build an engine properly.

Where are You located???

You may have problems getting the correct bearings..

Brazillian parts are everywhere now..
I've heard even the VW do Brasil parts aren't too good either..

You can get some good Brasillian parts... but there isn't a brand name to go by...
maybe some parts from different makers in Brasil ??

at least in the USA websites they usually tell You if the parts are German or Brasillian... or made in the USA..
and maybe?? they sell the best of the Brasillian parts??

In Australia, it seems We end up with whatever comes into the country..??

The engine has been rebuilt before, I'm pretty sure, including a crank grind. This is the info off one of the bearings more or less as it appears physically:

M 3 06

025 BC290

The 'M' actually is a sort of two pronged crown symbol.

QUESTION ONE:

Is this enough info to order a new set of bearings? I'm not going to have the crank reground or anything. It looks fine, and I don't think it did all that many miles anyway.

I'm buying smaller parts from Mid America Motorworks. I've had good success with them in the past. But a piston/cylinder set is pretty heavy.

QUESTION B:

What brand/s of piston/cylinder sets would you guys recommend that I can buy here in Australia, and who stocks those brands? Dad and I had a VW motor rebuilt for my sister years ago, and they used Brazilian parts. They weren't very good quality though. So I'm a bit wary...
