Hi. I went overseas for 3 months - came back, changed the oil in my VW Beetle, started it, it started on the first turn of the key! And I drove it 30km.

But nearing the end of the journey - it started behaving a bit funny. On 2nd gear, the car had a sudden loss of power.

I was pressing the accelerator and then it seemed the engine power just fell through.

I was in a bit of a panic but I just kept on going.

Later. I noticed that I probably did not add enough oil into the engine and put in another 1 litre of oil.

It drove home no problem. But I'm wondering whether it could be serious.

The Beetle is like a 2nd car to me. And since I work from home, I don't need to drive it around a lot.

How much oil total did you put in the engine? 2.5 litres is what a beetle takes.

It may be ignition related though, points? rotor?

I put in altogether 3 litres of oil and the dip stick still just shows the oil at half way mark.

My engine is a bit different. Its a 1641cc engine with a specially modified oil filter. basically the conventional oil filter fitted to the side of the engine - it was done by Volkshome.
