Australia day overblown?

annosL · 2012-01-26T05:48:26+00:00

Sometimes the hype of Australia day seems overblown to me as it really relates to NSW colonisation rather than Australia becoming a nation of federated states "Australia" in 1901. Dutch sailors visited the west coast over a hundred years before Capt.Cook so Jan.26th is not a big deal. It seems to me the convict fleets setting up a British penal colony in NSW isn't when the Nation Australia came into being, that happened in 1901, maybe I am showing my one-eyed W.A. colours but from thousands of kilometres away westward from Sydney it all seems Sydney-centric! (I appologise if I upset some!) One things for sure, Vee-dubs hold no boundaries, every country on earth seems to have had their air-cooled lot, even Antarctica
