Gee I love those silk worms, they just look so unreal and so cute 🙂

Are you sure you're not tricking us and your daughter made them out of Flymo?

Best part about the silkworms is they will soon hatch from the cocoons, the moths will lay HEAPS of eggs and you can actually keep them in the fridge until next mulberry season!!!!! So if you have any kids or want me to put some aside for you let me know 🙂 An yes they are genuine 🙂

Have two mulberry trees, grown kids and trying to cut down on dependents as no one to care for them if I don't. Tempting though, I would have when the kids were young.

Wow suspended animation how cool 😎

Now that I am comfortable with the fact that the dog is not going to eat the bunny, I can now throw out my alarm clock.

We've taken to leaving the door of the bunny's room open at night, and for the last few mornings I've been woken between 5am and 5.15am by a bunny sitting on me with his nose in my face!

It seems he's been joining in with the cats on their early morning romp. I've got the cats trained not to wake me up, but now I have to start work on the bunny.😀

Here's my bunny, and cats, Rastus and Sandy, on our bed with us. At the foot of the bed (just visible to Sandy's left) is Snuggles, the dog. Eventually I'll manage to get a photo with Kitty on the bed as well, but she usually sleeps on the other side.

Grass, mostly!! 😀

He also gets rabbit pellets when he comes in at night, and the occasional apple, carrot, bit of celery or lettuce. I've discovered that he likes eating the weeds outside too, like dock weed, cape weed, dandelions and several others. His rabbit run is now a weed-free zone!:thumb Maybe I'll have to fix the rest of the fences around the property and let him get at the rest of the weeds around the place. 😀

Here's our newest family member:

Welcome Diesel.

He's six weeks old and a Ridgeback cross and should serve as a good Baja and house alarm. It seems some people here in Dubbo have difficulty following what is is and is not their own.

He will grow quite big and will be very loyal. They were bread for Lion hunting which is good cause we have a zoo nearby. At the moment he's really only good as a Lions snack because he just sleeps all day.

We haven't had a yard for 5 years and the boys were promised a puppy when we moved as my old dog died when we moved down from Queensland.

We heve researched this breed and had it shortlisted for quite some time. Because of the heat here we were reluctant to return to owning German Shepards and Spitz dogs.

Diesel will accompany us for most holidays as Sally's car is (Telstar) will soon be traded for a wagon. He's very playful and loves the torment the kids provide him. We hope he settles in well and share or many happy moments.

Congratulations mate!! A man can't be without his dog. Particularly if things are going missing from the yard. My dog is a great deterrent, she even keeps the landlord and the meter man out of the yard!! Stupid thing is, she's an absolute suck, and once she knows its ok, she'll let anyone pat her and has never bitten anyone! Her bark is enough. 😀

If only I had a scanner I could post some pics of my pets. We've got 2 dogs, 2 fish, chooks, turkeys(yum), 2 tremendous lambs, 2 cows, 1 bull, 1 galah, and two pigs.

I have three older sisters so my dogs Bugsey and Mate took over being my brothers. We got up to mischief I can tell you! Their favourite vehicles in the whole world are our Taipan beach buggy farm-hack, and our red volkswagen S winter farm-hack. You just walk past the buggy and they are in it ready to go somewhere.

I don't like turkeys much because they fight my roosters so I just wait for christmas...mmmm...roast turkey.

My pigs are called one name collectively becasue they are inseparable and respond together. WE call them/it 'Porky Sphincta'(sp?), it means Pigs ass. THey were actually ferals caught in a trap as piglets. They were so small they could originally fit through weldmesh squares. They were as tame as dogs when small but now they are too big to be running free during the day and are not as friendly as before. i am sad to say they will probably turn into roasts, sausages, hams etc. Being on a farm in a drought.... all they do is eat with no return for us so they have to go.

🙁

Finally, our suffolk lambs (really hoggets now) have cast-iron stomachs. They eat everything in the whole garden up to about my chest heaight(and I'm 6' 4"). They are like African impala becasue they stand up on their back legs to reach as heigh as possible. If you are nearby they will use you as a convenient ladder which is very painful(Grandpa has a monster bruise). Their diet consists of grren apricots, green almonds, green grapes, avocado leaves(and all the other leaves of the aforementioned fruits), citrus leaves, mulberries and leaves, figs and fig leaves etc(YOU GET MY MEANING???!!!) Everything we have is edible to these animals.

Oh yeh, thegalah ran into a power line as a youngster so Dad cought him and looked after him. His wing was all smashed to bits so Dad amputated it with an elastrator ring. He is tame-as for Dad. Dad calls him Perky ....I call him viscious, savage, hateful etc... thank-god he can't fly after me. hehehe OUCH! (He bites)

I alsoused to have a pet red-back for a few years. Supposedly it should have died according to my book because they only live for a certain time. This was the most monstrous spider ever. It was fed a steady diet of cabbage-moths and blowies with locusts as well in the plagues. She was great, the only thing was I could never pat her (I am sure she wouldn't have bitten me????)

You tend to have hundreds of pets on farms throughout your life.

Sound much the same as where i grew up in Queensland Jamie. When we were out on the farm we had Sheep, Goats (Very nice) Turkeys, Geese, Peafowl, Cattle (50 head) and a few pigs. I had pet snakes as a kid - 3 carpet and 1 childrens python. For them I also had to breed mice.

As it was a sorta tourist park it also had 70 dofferent breets of parrots, 30 pairs of ducks and about 170 different types of rare fruits and nut trees. I spent most weekends mustering or underground mining out at the Gemfields.

Oh there were the dogs to - Mutley a fat Blue Heeler - good for nothing and a few kelpies with a German Shepard called Satan. He was perhaps the most useful as he kept people away and gave me some peace when I wasn't feeding and watering birds.

I don't miss loading hay, cutting lucine, shoveling seed and and cleaning the house. Somehow I managed to fit in some schoolwork and a swim now and then.

Bronze! How the hell did you end up with that many birds??? Were they all in cages? That is an awful lot of work each day. Are you glad to be out of it?

Jamie, don't green almonds contain cyanide or arsenic or something?:o

I also grew up with heaps of animals: dogs, cats, ducks, chooks, budgies, love-birds, cockatoos, galahs, a currawong, magpies, a corella, pidgeons, marine, tropical and goldfish (including seahorses), fruit bats, guinea pigs and a wallaby. Pets are a great exsperience for any kid. :thumb

Geez, I don't know Col. Every day the parrots would chop the almonds off and the pigs and lambs would clean them up off the ground. It was about a month ago so I suppose they would have kicked-the bucket by now😉

I agree wholeheartedly about the animals, I think farms are the best for kids. We have also had guinea pigs, rabbits, crows, kangaroos, mice, snakes, a magpie, spiders etc, lots of lambs every year, heaps of yabbies and tadpoles, bobtails, galahs and my sisters had cats. After the last one died, Dad and I said no-more and now we have three ferals -mind you they are pretty flat-out(skinned and tanned:thumb) I'm sorry, they are just too destructive on wildlife. the same goes for foxes, I got one yesterday with my dogs. It makes me wild that some idiot would have released foxes into Tassie intentionally!😠

Other animals are great though.

Yeah it was a fair zoo alright. Even though I was there (defacto Stepfathers) for about three years it never really got off the ground. There was a guy (John) who built the cages over an 8 month period. As quick as they went up they were stocked. It was quite sad now I remember it with row and row of beautiful birds fed on a budget. They had plenty of room to fly but it just wasn't right somehow on some level.

It would take just under two hours to water and feed 1/2 each afternoon the the other half needed to be done the next afternoon. The livestock had dams and plenty of acreage so just needed kulling and shearing now and then.

I am glad to have left it behind but return now and then to have a look and see how the fruit trees have grown.

I've only got 2 animals out back. 2 mongrel dogs. One is mine that is now 15 years old. bought as a foxie cross but turned out with looks and temperament as a chihauhua. She's mostly deaf, mostly blind, and has a massive hernia. Still happy enough, but her last day is surely very close.

Had to put my last dog down too after 13 years. She survived being hit by a car, jumping out of a moving car, a 3 yr holiday in New Zealand, being dressed up in dolls clothes, taken up the tops of tall trees. poor dog. loved to death I think.

The other dog is my sisters. Bijon friese cross maltese I think. (sp?) Its a pain in the .. proverbial. Stupid. Digs holes. Gets filthy. Needs clipping. Its got a great temperament though, unlike dog 1. I was babysitting it when my sister lived in a flat, but then my daughter adopted it so its now mine I presume. A good watch dog though. There are 3 houses in my street which havent been burgled according to neighbourhood watch. Mine is one of them. Although that could be because it looks like osama bin ladens mob used it as a training ground.

Have had salt/tropical/goldfish, guinea pigs, mice, tortoise, pigeon (rescued from dogs mouth), and a bean plant with resident spider as pets as a kid. You know when you put a been seed in the side of a jar and watch the roots grow. Mine got transplanted into a Double Brown beer can and toured New Zealand with us. Died suddenly though. I think my parents killed it in the end. Or maybe it got root bound.
