Hi Guys,
Here is the photos of the bike rack I made up, as mentioned all I need to do is either make an adaptor or by one.
The bike has been modified with an XT medium cage rear dereailer, Aireal Chain guide (42T), Maxxis Highroller and Minion, ODI lock on grips apart from that it is standard.:thumb

I wonder you can hang the bike off the back of the bug on one of those rear mounted luggage carries
it's a bit tricky, cos there's really nowhere to attach the top straps, apart from the door frame.
I used to carry my DH bike on the back of my '64 "Bluey".
the wheelbase of the bike was pretty much the same as the width of the bumper brackets.
I just sat one wheel on each, and run a tie down strap from the bars to the wheel arch, and from the seat post to the other wheel arch. never a prob.
I used one of the strap on bike racks on my Karmann Ghia, and never had any drama.

yep, they're both made by Kinesis.
so are the Avanti Manic and Hot Dog, Diamondback BSX, Haro Escape series, and many others.
Kinda like how the Raceline DH bike has the same frame ax my Oryx, which is the same as the Azonic Eliminator, and the Mongoose DH bike last year (the blue one) was from the same factory)
I had a Haro 8.3 last year, and the year before. Definately dialed geometry.
Kinesis is now gonna market frames with their own name on them.

I think the 8.3 frame looks great - bit like a split ute - a bit humpy up at the front where the top tube meets the head stem - just looks well proportioned...

Whats it like riding a hardtail DH instead of something with 4"+ rear travel? More of a challenge?

at one of our more pedally DH tracks, I was about 15 seconds faster on the hardtail, just cos it pedals so much better.

this is now why I got the X3 instead of the 8.3. 6" on the front and 7" on the back, and I can still climb hills. awesome.
and speaking of copies, the Haro uses the ATLAS design rear end, as developed by Ellsworth. No wonder it rides so nice.

Riding a hardtail on the course Im talking about would be hard as hell. Its a fast course but bloody rocky so it would be hard to keep ahardtail pointing in the right direction. The guy im talking about was only 7 seconds of the leader and 13 seconds faster than me.

I stuffed up my start but for the rest of it felt like I was traveling at light speed. When hitting the rocks it was BAM DA BAM BAM all the way to the finish. I was well stoked with my run and had some good coments from other riders on the hill. And this guy cained me on a hard tail.

How much do all y'all bikes weigh? Mine's just under 15kg i think - seems a bit heavy for a hardtail?

And wheres ppl's fav places to ride in Melb?

Go up to Buller in the off season. I have travelled over a couple of times. Awesome.
Chairlift up - downhill down. The people are great. You can stay in the Uni of Melbourne's Chalet for about 20 bucks a night and the chairlift was about 60p/day. Lots of local riders so show you the way and if you do go... see if you can get on a run called shoehorn or something (cant remember) its a cross country / downhill that is about 15kms long.
I wiped out 3 times on it but everyone did. Word of advice. Take as much spare parts as you can. Because there is only 1 bike shop they can charge whatever they want. A chain was nearly $80. Have fun. I went in the first week back of school in jan so it was me and a few friends, some locals and we had the steep hills all to ourselves.

That sounds cool my mate Tim and I were only last night talking about a MTB holiday somewhere and Cudlee Creek did come up. Tim has one of those people movers for all his kids and where thinking bikes on trailer 4 riders and big road trip over to Adelade. With four of us fuel will be OK and no loss or damage of bikes from baggage handlers.
Just need 2 more riders.

Practice and more practice me thinks hit up another DH race track last monday was heeps of fun the ground was nice a tacky which led to some nice railing corners. Unfortunatly the forcast for the race this weekend is rain so it will turn to goop.
It all good Nige

Sounds so sweet Turbo54! I'm hoping I can make it up there before the snow season - actually, it would be perfect if I can get up there just befoe the season starts, then I can stay up there and snowboard when it gets deep enough! .... dream dream dream...

I wonder if Mt Hotham runs their chairlifts during the off season like Buller does?

yeah Hotham runs. The downhills are a lots more basic and fast. Lots of long fast firetracks.
Buller was the pic because it has both, fast sections but lots of technical tracks through scrub.
Either would be good. There is a shop called NRG on both mountains run by the same people, give them a call about when the seasons are on. Think they might be closed now.

finnished the custom fork! Its a beaut, I love it.
turned out as good as I could have hoped.
A 40mm spacer a mate made was added to move the mounting point for the internal assembly up in the lowers to allow the 1997 Z.1 internals to fit in 2001 Z.5 20mm lowers.
mmm all bolt up

The spacers the big cylinder at the bottem.
This made it a bitch to assemble the forks as the damper/stanchion had to be installed first, then the bushings and seals installed with the stanchions in the way.

Yea but its a good 100mm :kiss
enough for all my needs..
Need to put some 7.5wt oil in them tho as the 10wt I have in them is still a little slow even with the dampening as fast as it goes.
