Looking great westi - can't wait to hopefully see it at warwick, and have a chat with you and all the others off the forum whom I've never met before!
Good luck with the remainder of the project.
Alan

Here is a couple of pics...one when I was building the new 3" narrowed beam.
The tilt front frame will be modified to suit a 300 high aluminium radiator that tilts forwards with twin thermos on the rear. Additional shrouding will be introduced as well (not to mention a 'real' overflow bottle...)
Reub
that looks pretty cool, who is making all your new stuff.
down sharon.
Have a mate up here that does nice fabrication stuff as long as I'm not in a hurry. He helped with a number of items on vwrx. Lays sweet tig welds....

nice,it's pretty hard to find good welders.the only reason i asked the question is because PWR will make any thing even if you only send them a drawing, and they give warranty for everything that they make.

nice work on the car Westi, it's taken me a while to find this thread but just enjoyed the ride so far.... keep up the top work.

Yeah, was thinking PWR - much like my intercooler...even if i just buy the core from them and have my mate make the tanks, support brakets and radiator mounts.
Will doing the old cardboard mockup for the new radiator and stuff....will have to start my own post to keep you updated.
Thanks again too for keeping us all updated with your build. We're always up for some volksporn :thumb
Reub
there is not enough hours left for me to get it all done.so sadly the car will not be going,
but if i do get some more work done i will post up some pic's.
down sharon.
You built the tilt beam yourself for the front end?
If so awesome job may need to talk about getting one made up for myself :P Very nice work, any chance you could let me in on how your securing the bonnet to the top of the body so it doesnt open.
What is the latest Westi?

i will try posting some pic's tonight.

just a few pic's ,it has been awhile.the fibre glasser has been alittle slack.
down sharon.
i am interested to hear some peoples thoughts on this.
i had to make the original in steel ,before we made a mould .that was fun.
i should be putting it all in the car during the x-mas break so i will keep you all posted.

You dont have to ask me twice... love it!

I've got loads of photos with this style of cooling using a Porsche fan but never electric, nice concept less drag hopefully similar cooling 🙂 get Wes to rin the numbers for you
not pink please its so eighties .
gloss black ,maybe some pinstriping or metal flake .. not been done yet to my knowledge, very retro too and man i got some wheels for you 4 stud too

whats the air flow rate of electric vs factory? looks the goods though.

the electric fan produces 1000 cfm,
the books tell me 18 to 20 cubic feet per second on a standard pull size which would be around 15 to 18 with a power pulley.@3300 to 4000 rpm.
so standard or modified would be ruffly 1200cfm to 900cfm.
i have 1000cfm on the engine and another 650cfm on the cooler.so hopefully it should be more than enough.
i will be doing two tests at the same time.
i have someone trying the same set up on a stock 1600 with twin carbs.
it should be a good tester anyway.
i have heard so much about this but no one has actually showed what they tried,so i thought i would give it a go.

Nice one Westi, I think alot of people may be interested in the concept if the trial is succesful. Sounds great in theory, good luck and keep us posted on the results.
would be a good set up if you you can control the heat issues. all the extra room for a turbo and fuel injection setup👍

here's a pic of the new oil filter mount, everything has to match with pink
down sharon.
Mate...that's purdy...and looks expensive 😁
So...how about dropping the dizzy as well and going a different route for ignition triggering?
Reub
i was goig to go MSD distributorless.but i had already bought the 6al
and yes the filter cost me my first bourne ,but it is re-usable,so i don't have to buy one ever again.

Westi very nice stuff! 😀
Is the fan going to be always on? Or I guess I am assuming you will be hooking it up to a themostat... Also on a side note, ie extended period driving the fan would eventually come would the drain on the battery be to much? The reason I ask is I guess there aint much airflow through there while driving ie like a front mount radiator in a normal car... hope this makes sense...
But I like the work good stuff!! 👍
Cheers
Joel
just some updates, new alternater mount and carbs mounted
down sharon.
Nice, hope she run as good as she looks. Love ya work.
man hope it works a treat ,if you create this space with this set up ,as said above, the space gained would open up so many options ,super chargers etc etc cant wait to see if it turns good...in the cooling dept ... still dont like pink though.. but who cares ..
