Ok, we have the new beetle:

http://www.bdb.co.za/items/new_beetle.jpg

And the classic beetle (well, because of the huge range of early models, i call it the classic):

http://www.zo.com/~nehpets/pics/dig/card/Old%20Beetle.JPG

So, place your vote, what do you prefer? (note: regardless of the model of the displayed, classic beetle, it is refering to all pre-1994 beetle models)

Personally, if the New beetle was built like the old ones, (giving it that special originality that the old one had) and it was just as compatible as the old one into making "New Beetle Bajas" and buggy kit cars, I would probably like it better than the classic one. However, I think its all right, but I believe that the classic beetle beats it by a long shot.

So whats your opinion,
PLACE YOUR VOTE!!!!!!!!

my thoughts exavctly. for a new guy, you sure know "which buttons to push"

given the nature of avd topics over time, numbers are prolly with the "classic"....... but who knows, we may all aspire to a NB....

Ok, I dont own either, but plan to get one.
:o
AND YES, I am a NEW GUY TO THIS. That explains why i didn't put it in a poll.
:cry
But it was on my mind and I thought it would be an interesting topic to underlook without considering really where i should put it. (Hence why I didn't think about placing it in a poll).
🙁
But at least I am learning, and I have seen my error, thanks for picking it up.
:blush
So, yeah.

Anyways, take a look at this, it may make you reconsider your thought about the NEW BEETLE (IN DUNE/BEACH BUGGY FORM). Its pretty cool, but would be worth a good dime. Apparently its got a 2L or something V5 engine (I don't believe I have ever heard of a V5 engine before) and is "4 wheel drive!"

So take a geez.

It was a great marketing tool for VW when their worldwide sales were falling. However I'd rather get the car underneath it without the body which has more space for less money - VW Golf (preferably the R32 version🙂)

I will take Old over New,
Reasons:

1. I can afford the old one.
2. Old ones were made for the people, and it was cheap. New one is a little out of the normal persons reach. (same as Holden Monaro)
3. I can work on an old one in the back yard without the laptop handy.
4. More people love the old one and are happy to one that has been looked after.

However the new one has:
1. Comfort.
2. Fuel economy.
3. luxury.

But i will stick with my old '76

I prefer the old style beetle reason because its affordable to almost any one and you can drive it as is, cut it up into a baja get rid of the body and make a buggy. There easy to fix all u really need to work on it is a 10, 13, 15, 17,19 socket/ spanner and a flat and phillips head screw driver if it breaks down (not that it would )on the side of the road

Not a big fan of the new vws as they seem too technical and they are made of plastic and if i wanted a plastic car i would buy one from the toy shop much cheaper

Vws beetles aren't mean to have water in them??? whats with that

I want one new one and lots of old ones..

I Like the classic beetle because I can fix it and modify it as I wish for relatively small money. The only down side is that at the moment every sunday is becoming maintenance day at my place.

I have the new one because of modern convenience factors and the fact that I don't have to fix it myself.

CLASSIC

New Beetle is a marketing gurus wet dream, hitching a ride on the CLASSIC's legend. Could rent space on from front seat to bottom of screen in sydney real estate market.(waste of space) A great great car for getting tanned thighs (screen leans way back) and taking midgets sightseeing in the back to all the cafe/latte hangouts that these buyers inhabit (style queens):duh

Buy the Golf and with the money saved buy a CLASSIC.😀

Porsche had a dream..............N.B wasn't it!😉

Hi Chris!! Welcome to the forum to begin with! One thing you will come to know is that alot of people on this forum arn't open to change, they like what they like (which is usually classic VW's) these people have a name...which I learnt not so long ago...'PURISTS'! But really I think that stands for narrow minded, stubborn old fogies. :puke

I personally fell in love with the old Bugs, I owned a 1970 as my first car and now I have just bought a 1968. I love these because atm when I don't have a great amount of $$$ I can modify the bug to what I wish!

:sandrine BUT I LOVE the new ones!! Stuff everyone who bags them out. Eventually when I save up I am going to buy a new one and I am going to wave to every other bug I see, but I will still keep the 68'. The main thing is Chris that you buy what you want and don't listen to people's negative comments. 😉

I am biased as I owned one of the new ones. The Beetle has had its day, and the New Beetle is here now. It's far more comfortable, frugal, and can keep up with even the fastest of modern traffic. And stop, too. Shame about the little bits built by Bosche and Delphi (generally in Germany and engineered by Germans) which let down this (and all A4 platformed cars) from their shoddy design and too-cheap construction. Otherwise, these Mexican built beauties would be a goer.

Anyway, it's not a German 121 bubble car. It's a Californian designed, Mexican built Beetle look alike. Name one other modern car that has guards? The old 121 didn't.

I put my name down for the classic original.
I am a beetle lover and a Mini lover and VW f**ked it up
much the same was BMW did trying to replicate the Mini.
These 2 cars were developed as a peoples car. Cheap
enough for the average family to afford and cheap to maintain and run....

What the hell is cheap about 40k price tags
and certainly nothing cheap about BMW servicing
thats for sure. Give me my 62 standard anyday!
1958 Beetle, 1966 VW Beetle, 1996 Holden Statesman!
Its an obsesion for engines and fuel.... 😏
